How much poop does a doodle owner scoop when a doodle owner scoops for two? All the talk about what it costs for feed our dogs for a month got me to thinking - how much poop am I picking up in a month. It has seen a sharp rise in quantity since getting Stuart whose growth is in tandum with his increasingly larger poops. Soooooo tomorrow I have decided that I am going to weigh the poo bags at the end of the evening to see just what is what. It is obvious that I don't have enough to do but think about it, I'll be able to figure out how much poop that is a week, month and a year! Very useful info don't ya think? LOL
*******************************THE WEIGH IN******************************
I counted poops and weight over a two day time period to get an average. Rooney poos 2/3 times a day - Stuart 3/4 times so on average I'll be picking up 2,190 bags of poop per year. This has to be good exercise right?
The weight was .5 lbs per day (although this will go up as Stuart grows) so at the weight it will be 182.5 lbs in a year.
So that is the stinky end of my quest to find out how much poop does a doole owner scoop.

I did this calculation a while back when we had three dogs. The numbers were frightening:
2-3 poops per day x 3 dogs = 6-9 poops per day.
6-9 poops per day x 7 days per week = 42-63 poops PER WEEK!
This is even worse in the winter when it snows over all of it and you KNOW you'll be in deep doodie for a while once it melts. I *SHUDDER* to think about it.
That is a lot of poo!!!!
You know that here on DK, you can find anything! Here's a discussion where we actually did weigh the poop bags and answered this burning question:

I calculated that JD produces roughly 273 lbs of poop per year!
Julie - I was using those little blue bags forever too! Now, I just use them when we go for walks cuz he ALWAYS poops on his walks! I have a little container for the blue bags with a belt clip that I just clip to my shorts. Very convenient.
In the yard, I now use a little shovel my kids used to use when we went to the beach. Just in case they were to want to play with it, before I started scooping poop with it, I took a sharpie & wrote POOP on it! I have been shoveling it into the blue bags & putting into the trash. Now, I'm thinking I'll help save the environment. I'll just shovel up the poop, take it right in & flush down the toilet. Then, I won't have to use the bags except for walks.
On the topic of pooping - Do any of you wipe your dog's butt? I used to, when he was positive for giardia, but even after that, I did it for a while. I have the wipes right by the door. He was used to it when he came in & then I hand sanitized myself of course. I stopped doing that. Should I continue? Everybody around here thinks I'm nuts...(I have NO idea where they get that idea...)
