I got to wondering, how often do you bathe your doodle? I know that some people give their dog a bath every six months. Doodles aren't just dogs though, so how often do you bathe your doodle? Huff gets a bath once a week. He just got one yesterday:)

JD also doesn't roll in anything or get filthy. His time outdoors is usually spent in a vertical position. And I find that brushing him out gets rid of most dirt or debris he does pick up. His feet do get cleaned regularly, as well as certain other areas.

As for lying on floors, Adina, are you saying your floors aren't immaculate?

With two dogs my floors are NEVER immaculate for more than half an hour =)  Since they add dirt and paw prints so quickly, I have given up on TRYING for immaculate floors.  I just aim for 'looks okay in pictures' ;-)

My two don't roll in 'nasty' things but they chase each other in the yard, roll each other in the yard, dig, kick up dust galore, and I'm sure Rosco sometimes gets pee on his thighs or legs or whatever.  They don't really smell because there's no sweaty b.o. to have, but if you put your nose into Rosco's face he has a bit of a 'farm' smell ... it's kind of cute.

I guess that's one advantage of two squatters, no pee on legs. Maybe you can retrain him : ) That could be next month's assignment. I do wonder why some dogs never lift their legs but I'm not complaining.
Oh Rosco squats 99% of the time in our yard.  But on windy days or when he hasn't stretched himself out adequately his front legs sometimes are a little too close to that stream for my comfort.  Speaking of the 1% of the time...it happened this last week when one of Natalie's lawn chairs was in the middle of the yard.  He walked out to pee, got near the chair and made a little puddle RIGHT ON THE SEAT!  SO glad I saw it so it didn't soak in there without my knowing.
I agree Adina. I just go with my usual requirements at my house. Man or beast....if you are sleeping in my bed and laying on my couch you will be clean. Period, no exceptions. If for some reason their skin couldn't tolerate frequent baths the first two luxuries would be out of the question for me.

I guess Im lucky that Cooper doesnt roll in the dirt much. I know of some doodles who will throughly investigate every puddle! Being chocolate she hides the dirt well. if I had a cream doodle i think id probably wash her more often! I find that once cooper is dry, the mud just falls off her and she doesnt need washing (it means i have to sweep alot though!)

Last time we washed Cooper it had been 4 or so months....... she had been swimming a bit ..... and barely any dirt came off her. We were really surprised!

Every week.

We also bathe Mochi once a week, Sundays. He comes to our office with us everyday, and he stays pretty clean until after we take him to dog parks on weekends. He sleeps with us in bed.

I'm glad Mochi don't read this, otherwise he'll be like: "Mom, WHY DO I GET BATHED 52 TIMES A YEAR while some lucky doodles only get it 2~6 times a year?"

Mine get bathed every five weeks when they go to the groomer.  Black is a good doodle color - Maggie never looks dirty but she does get smelly when wet.  KoKo also has a silver coat that doesn't show the dirt.  My angel dood Maggie would be fine if I tried to bath her but my little devil dood KoKo would be a nightmare in the tub.  Thus, I leave it all up the the groomer.  Hurts in the checkbook though.
Lucy and Sophie have very different coats.  I think other than beard and feet Lucy could go months without a bath.  I would like to give her one every 2 weeks, but it probably ends up being once a month or so.  I think she feels better when she is freshly bathed.   Sophie on the other had has somewhat oily feeling hair.   Because of her therapy work she has to be clean so in the winter it is usually two weeks and in the summer once a week.

I have been accused of OVER Bathing my doodles and will agree with many here that they get a bath when they look or feel dirty but at least every 2 weeks. They sleep in our bed, and they can't take off their shoes before hopping into bed, or wipe their behinds or privates after going potty or use a bib or napkin to wipe their faces after eating, or avoid the random poop in the yard as they roll and play.  So add that to the Arizona dusty dirt and a few trips to the dog park and 2 weeks is about it for me. I use Tropiclean Non-soap Dog Shampoo on Bella and regular Oatmeal Dog shampoo from JeffersPet the last time I bought it, for Murphy. Bella had a hard time adjusting to the dry weather here and that seemed to really help her. Murphy has no problem and I could probably wash him with TIDE and he'd be fine. I do use conditioners, and Cowboy Magic for combing matts and a leave in Tea Tree Oil Spray for any itchy areas or scratches they get from all their wrestling.

Actually, the best thing you can do to avoid drying out the skin and/or coat from frequent bathing, according to Jack's dermatology specialist, is to avoid using a hot dryer. Use a cool dryer setting or let them air-dry if possible.
