Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is my first year with my doodle (rescue from the Town shelter).  We just had a huge snow.  Well I learned Murphy loves the snow and comes in with TONS of ice/snow balls attached to his fur.  How do you remove all of them.  I have used a hair dryer today (he doesnt mind the HD), because otherwise he is biting/chewing them off.  I didnt like that so much.

Thank you.

I purchased a Paw Plunger for cleaning mud off the feet. It works good for snow if it isn't to far up the leg.
I get Gussy's legs trimmed in winter, then use a towel when he comes in.

I do a finger sweep on each pad and in between each toe.  Then I "comb" Zoe's leg with my fingers.  It gets most out, then I towel dry and the balls comes off.  The past couple days, we've had a deep snow, so I got the hair dryer out on a medium setting from a medium distance and semi dried her legs...

I have an old stock pot by the door with water for those muddy days.  just a couple quick dips and it's off.

Emma had the same problem today and though I tried using the hair dryer, I found that putting her in the tub and spraying some warm water did the trick in half the time!
I have had mine in the tub with warm water to their knees, a least six times today!  After a good romp in the snow there are monster snow balls all over their legs and feet.  I hadn't thought about the hair dryer.  I think I will try that tomorrow!
Oh and be careful with hot hair dryers!!  They can burn the skin!!  And mine aren't too crazy with the noisy dryer...
I find the best way is lukewarm water in the bath.  We have this weird double sink in our basement used ages and ages ago for who knows what but it works great front legs on the left, back legs on the right.  Then your wrap them in a towel and it's cuddle time!!
I use a paw plunger too http://pawplunger.com/ though we dont get much snow
I used a towel. I placed it in the dryer for a few minutes to get it warm. I wrapped it around Bindi, she took a little nap. She loves the snow too!
Putting it in the dryer first is a great idea....I'll try that.
This is going to sound crazy but they had some nice dog jackets at Target that I was going to buy for Molly & Bailee for Christmas and when I went back to the store to get them they were sold out (of course)    sooooooooo I started thinking and here is what I came up with......I bought 2 small women'e turltleneck shirts at walmart for $6.00 each then I went home and tried them on each of them to see if they would even let me attempt to put the on and of course being the good doodles they are they did.  Then I cut about 2 inches of each sleeve and put a piece of elastic in each and sewed it real quick along with a piece of elastic for around their lower belly at the end of the shirt and guess what I now have a pretty snowball proof shirt for them.  It covers their ears with the turtleneck part and it goes down to the end of their front paws so no snowballs there and it covers most of their bellies.  Now we will see how it works when we get our first snow but I'm thinking this is going to be way better than trying to get the snowballs off their legs and belly.  If this doesn't work they are getting a haircut.

Thank you everyone for the ideas.  They are great.  Today we tried the stock pot by the back door.  Murphy wanted no part of his paw put in the water, so we put a wash cloth in the warm water and then put that on his  legs, butt and belly.  It really did help.

Thank you again, and I do think I will be purchasing the paw washer thing.  Looks great.
