Howdy! Lucy, our F1b Irish Doodle, will be coming home next weekend!!!

Hello All from San Antonio, Texas!!!

We browsed and searched for information on Irish Doodles throughout the web and have only seen generic information until we found this site!!! We are so glad to be members of this site which is choc-full of information about anything doodle.

On the 14th of May, we will be picking up Lucy, a F1b Irish Doodle.  Her dad is a poodle and her mom is an irish doodle. We have been visiting her once a week for the past two weeks and are so excited for this apricot darlin' to come home with us.

Being new to doodles - especially Irish Doodles, we have some questions that hopefully someone can shed light on. Here goes...

1. Coat: We know that doodle breeds have an assortment of coats.  Based on Lucy's pictures below, can one get an idea of what kind of coat she'll have? Does anyone have a before and after pic of thier irish doodles?

2. Temperament: She is quite calm and used to people handling her (seems nicely socialized with the breeder and her 4 kids). We were just curious about this particular mix.

I'm sure we'll think of more questions – just excited to be here!

Below are some pictures of Lucy:

Congrats Lucy is adorable. Our Snickers is an Irish doodle too! His mom was an Irish setter/Golden and dad was a poodle. You may notice that Lucy is a bit leaner than other doodles also Irish setters like to RUN and Snicks definitely got this trait. Good luck on bringing your new puppy home!

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Snickers looks awesome! Any puppy pictures?

Here are some puppy pics of Snickers the first is when we picked him out the others are at about 6 months-he was ALOT more red and his coat was more straight, now he has between a wavy and curly coat but has the Irish Setter feathering on the end.  He sheds but not too much.

Snickers is SOOO cute!
Congratulations.  I'm not sure sure yet about the type of coat, but she sure is one cute little Doodle girl.  I have ALDs, not Irish Doodles, but I did have an Irish Setter for about 13 years.  When it comes to Setters, one word.....energy.  Ours needed lots of exercise, and never seemed to get tired.  I loved her to pieces, and she sure kept us "in shape".  Best of luck and please keep us updated.
Wow--she is adorable! I can see the difference in head shape--she has a narrower head and longer nose than labradoodles--she is soo cute! I have never seen an Irish doodle before--glad I have now learned about them. Based on my puppies and their similar coat appearance, I would say that she will have a loose fleece coat. You can see the waves in the ears, but the coat is not curly (yet) so I think she will be wavy not tightly curled. Just my opinion--only her DNA knows for sure!
Oh my goodness - she is beyond precious.  I love the name too... :)

awwwh - she is adorable!!  I'm excited to read this - Kirby (the auburn/brown doodle in my avitar) is a F1 Irish Setter/Poodle.  We adopted him (he was a rehome) when he was 13 months so we have no baby photos of him :(  If you look at my profile you'll see many photos from age 13 months +.

Kirby is a wonderful dog.  He is so loyal to my husband, myself and to Dexter (F1B labradoodle) and never does anything bad (unlike his brother!).  The one thing we have learned is that his hunting instincts are very strong so he cannot be offleash in a non-fenced area.  I'm not saying your doodle will be the same, but be careful until you know for sure.  The other thing is that he definitely has more energy than Dexter but as long as we let him out in the yard a few times a night and walk him all is fine.

Kirby sheds very very slightly (it's comperable with how much Dexter sheds).  Your puppy's coat looks like it's wavy/fleece which is similar to Kirby's.

I'm excited to see more photos when she comes home.

She is so beautiful! I grew up with Irish Setters. I've noticed on DK that some people who have them are calling them SetterDoodles as opposed to IrishDoodles. If you are doing a search try that title. I keep looking for them because the ones I've seen here are so gorgeous. Congratulations!
Not really any answers for you but whatever the coat she will be even cuter than she is now! Good luck and send Pictures of her homecoming!!!
Congrats on the new pup! She's a cutie!!
I looked into Irishdoodles when we got our Shepadoodle (german shepherd/standard poodle) and thought that was a lovely mix, however I heard they had even more energy than the Shepadoodle...plus my husband really wanted a german shepherd, so we took that route instead. However, I bet you have an awesome little dog on your hands come May 14th!! Def. share some homecoming pics!!
We just got our Molly (shepadoodle) a little over a month ago and she is SUCH a JOY!!! Our first doodle...but def. not our last!
PS. sorry I couldn't answer your questions...I'm not sure about her coat. She looks more wavyish to me, which means she could possibly shed a tad bit...but really, who knows!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Snickers is one good looking dude :)

We're excited that Lucy will be home this weekend. We shall attempt to take more pictures and upload them this weekend.
