Ok here is Virginia!

Good to see you.

I'd also suggest a stash of cash. Gas stations and many businesses now only doing cash purchases.

I'm noticing all the things I take for granted!  It would be important to have cash too, as chances are it would be hard for folks to get to a bank.

Some banks, if not most are closed and the ATMs don't work many places. Somewhere, maybe Hoboken, NJ they were bringing in a portable ATM so that people could get cash. Truly, there are so many things we take for granted but I am almost over flipping switches that don't work : )

Funny about flipping the switches!  I get mad at myself for doing that when the power is out.  The photos of lines at gas stations are part of the whole horrific news of Sandy's aftermath.  Sounds like you're hanging in there pretty well, in spite of it all.

Yesterday we got junk mail. The mail trucks were not delivering to the POs. I checked a couple of times today, don't know if we got anything. I hve between 3-4 months of dog food :-)

F, was thinking of you. Good to see you here.

Just wanted to check in with everyone. It's good to see you all posting and I hope everyone continues to be ok. We are in NJ, lost power and phone service Monday night. I have never heard winds like I did that night. Lost a few trees, but we were very lucky compared to what I am seeing around. Our power came on 11 pm last night. A huge oak tree a street over fell and wiped out the lines and knocked out the whole neighborhood. We've had the fireplace going to keep warm, used many flashlights and candles and relied on a radio for news. Our stove worked too.

We've concidered a generator in the past, but have never lost power for more than an hour or so prior to this storm plus our refrigerator and freezer are built in and are hard wired so there is no plug to connect to a generator. We got my parents up on a generator and I was able to store my frozen meat there. All else is gone!

Main roads are clear, but side roads are full of trees. Gas stations are just starting to open.

Jack is a trooper and likes nothing better than to go out in a good storm. He puts his nose up in the breeze and takes it all in. I had to keep him in when it really hit and he's been having fun playing inside.

We are waiting for the tree service to clear out our fallen trees, but there are so many more urgent things for them to do, they will get to us whenever. We have a lot of outside clearing to do. The leaves look as if they have been through a blender and little bits are stuck on the siding, windows, everywhere. But we are lucky.

We are just seeing footage of all the destuction and it is heartbreaking. The Jersey shore I grew up with is no more. I just had Jack romping on the beach not long ago. sigh I wish everyone the best in their recovery.

Here's a few pics of what we've got going on, fallen trees, empty fridge ready to fill, how many towels will dry a doodle?! :

Janie, Thank you so much for checking in! I am so grateful to hear you are safe and that the extent of your damage is repairable. The devastation from this hurricane is overwhelming. Your perspective is a blessing. Hang in there.

Thanks and what a great idea to start this discussion. I've wondered how other DKers have managed with the storm too.

May I compliment you on the refrigerator!  CLEAN!

Glad you checked in....  Stay Home. Stay home for awhile.  This too shall pass
