The trainer came today to assess Meg before we start working with us. I let her greet him and then we settled her down and I showed him what all she can do (tricks) and basic obedience commands.  the first thing he told me is that it will not be the amount that he quoted me for training because she is smart enough and eager enough that she will do what I need in no time at all.  I was thrilled to hear that.  She is not the first doodle he has worked with (most of his dogs are trained for narcotics and search and rescue) and he made the comment that he thought she would be a great therapy dog with a bit of work.  That is exactly the direction I would like to go with her.  So we are set up for our first session tomorrow evening, after a couple meetings at my house we will progress to the park, then large store parking lots and then walking through a Rural King store.  I am excited and ready for her to show what a 'smarty pants' she is and then show her that she can learn even more.

Excellent!  Good luck.

Sounds like Meg is definitely ready and your trainer seems to be a good one.  Keep us posted on how things go and have fun along with the "work!  :)

That is what all dog owners would love to hear...you should have fun too :)

I think that's great that you're really serious about Meg's training and that she's already come so far.  Definitely keep us posted...maybe join our Training Group.

Congratulations on the exciting assessment about Meg! Please post her progress for all of us to enjoy!

Keep us posted.  Good luck with your smartie.

That is very nice of him to say it will cost less because she is so smart. I like him already!
You must be so proud! Training for therapy work will be so rewarding for both you and Meg. Yes, please keep us posted.

Thanks for all the encouragement.  I really am looking forward to this.  The great thing when talking to the trainer was finding out that I had Meg farther along than I thought I did.  He noticed a couple of my behaviors that he would like for me to change, it is important to him that I be trained as her trainer rather than him training her and I love that.  I thought several months back that once I had Meg settled enough to train for therapy it might be a great thing to do but for right now I just needed to her walking and greeting correctly so when he mentioned the therapy I was elated. I don't know anyone in our area that has a dog for therapy use but our local nursing homes often let the people from the humane society bring in dogs.

That's great!  Keep us posted on the progress!

Way to go, Judy and Meg :)
