I am at the end of my rope with the heart worm, flea & tick meds!!!! I just don't know what to do. Rooney does not tolerate any meds very well but did manage to keep down 1/2 of a Tri-heart Plus (for up to 25lbs) with his breakfast - tonight he'll get the other half with dinner and I'll hold my breath that he doesn't throw some or all of it up. I'll skip a day to let his system rest and then start the process over cutting in 1/2 a Comfortis, dosing a.m. & p.m., which ALWAYS causes him to be sick but the vet says if it stays down for an hour or longer there should be coverage. Rooney has done o.k. on the topical BUT after seeing it cause head tremors in Stuart - I'm too scared to use it any longer.
Stuart got his entire Trifexis tablet (heart worm, flea & tick all together) with his breakfast today. Rooney can't take the Trifexis at all - makes him violently ill, Stuart has spit up a little bit on it UNTIL today. I'm scared as he just did a big vomit all over his bed (which is now in the trash) and he is acting strange. Trying to hide, repeatedly licking his lips, eyes glassy. Dog Poop - I am getting mad. I've never had this problem with any of our other dogs - what gives?********************
Stuart appears to have made a full recovery. I tried to keep him calm and quiet yesterday but as the day went on he felt better and better so by early evening we even went to the dog park for a little while. he ate his chicken and not so much the rice for breakfast and for dinner I mixed in a small amount of his kibble and raw topper to slowly get him back on his food. I do want to check with the vet to see if we should give him a seperate heartworm pill in a week or does she feel that he is covered for now. Next month I will try him on the Frontline but I am going to start slow and under dose him to watch for any head tremors. Thanks everyone for all your support and advise - I truely don't know how I would survive without all of you!!!

Maybe we can "chat" in the middle of the night...LOL I'll be on Guinness watch too. It's so good that you got him to the Vet as fast as you did. I just know he'll be okay.
Sounds good - I just need to remember that I "might" have to drive - so not too much wine but boy do I need to relax!!!
This is such good information, Karen. I hope to commit it to memory.
Well, dang! Hope Stuart gets all his extra air out one end or the other! And most of all, I hope you can find some protection against fleas, ticks, worms, etc. that both boys can tolerate!
Keep us posted! What a pain, poor Stuart :(
When Lola was younger she had some stomach issues when taking Interceptor and Frontline The vet said to give her an antacid when giving her the meds and it seemed to work. Now that she is older, she doesn't have any stomach issues (knock on wood) but might be worth asking your vet.
We've done the pepcid with Rooney it doesn't really help but this time Stuart was like poisoned - very very scary. The vet agrees - NO MORE Comfortis or Trifexis for Rooney & Stuart!!!
I am so sorry to hear about Stuart. I use Interceptor and Frontline with no problem. I always have ordered food and meds before I'm low so I can live a while with back orders, storms etc. My vet did not like the idea of cutting the Interceptor in half for Luca, the Calla size dose that is. You have to be sure this is a good idea for whatever medication you are using. Some tabs are not meant to be cut, enteric coated or slow release ones usually. Trifexis sounds like it has many side effects.
Im sorry to read this! I do hope he does not bloat. Like Karen said I would have Gas X on hand...Is there someone that can pick that up for you.
Maybe the vet might suggest giving it to him to get any air out now .
I had a dog bloat 4 times. Her main symptom was Not being able to lie down, also a hard stomach, large- but not huge.
If this dog had gas I would actually have her lay down on her side & massage her stomach to help her work the gas out.
I do not know if this would be recommended.
OMD! I hope everything goes smoothly tonight, and that none of those bloat symptoms show up.
For what it's worth, Halas is on Frontline and Interceptor, and he's never had any problems. But the Frontline is a topical, and it sounds like that has caused problems for Stuart in the past.
Oh, Jane, I am so sorry. You are such a good doodle mom. We use Frontline Plus and our guys haven't had any problems with it other than it causes Ned's fur to mat more. I think it stings them when I apply it.
