Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This has been the best day in a very long time.  Got up at about 5:15 with 2 doodles both of whom needed to go potty BAD.  The boys ate their breakfast while momma and dh enjoyed a delicious cup (or 5 of coffee), then we leashed them both up and walked the 3 mile loop through the marsh.  Stuart is doing so well on leash and that is a good distance for the little guy (4 months on Tues) - thank goodness no gators today.  We got the boys in their "places" and dh and I set off on the 8 mile around the development loop on our bikes.  Laurie's blog was my inspiration as I sweated my a$$ off in the FL heat.  Lets just say that dh finished his loop well before I finished mine.  Sadly no one was wearing the spandex biking shorts.  Coming home and actually have gotten my chubby self moving, I was feeling pretty full of myself.  I decided that I am sick to death of my house looking like a puppy daycare.  Stuart is fine after his neuter and he is potty trained now so I took the huge gating down (that I have had to climb over 1,000 times a day) to get into the kitchen.  I moved the swinging gated door to the back hallway/laundry room.  The ex-pen was taken down and put away.   The house actually looks normal (if you don't notice the dog toys, bully sticks and shin bones strewn about).  I put the little gate in the back hallway and the boys have a large area to stay when we need to leave them that is safe from causing any damage.  Then we left the boys in their new area - Stuart was cool - Rooney was a little bit nervous - and we went to hit golf balls.  My life is back!  Stuart will be old enough this Sept./Oct. for me to jump back into the golfing season without my having to worry.  This timing with him has really worked out so well - we are through the worst of the puppyness stage.   Yippee - life is looking pretty sweet with my doodle boys!

Lisa - it was hard at first.  How much was because Stuart was sick, sheds, etc. I'm not sure - you won't hear me say it was easy BUT I will be the first to say that Rooney - he is a happier boy for having Stuart and I've found that I love them BOTH.  Each is special and I can't imagine life without Stuart now.  1 is easier - 2 is more fun!!!!!  LOL.
Jane, how great! Now I'm thinking a puppy might not be so bad.... oh no. :-)
That is such an inspirational update. And you have a cute new profile pic to go with it!
Yay! This is great inspiration for all of those who are struggling with puppy issues and/or rescue dog issues. Proof that "this too shall pass"!
I'm astonished that Stuart is four months already! Wow. It does go super fast. He and Rooney are so cute together.

so happy for you Jane! I know from following your updates that I am not ready for a second doodle yet, but I'm looking forward to it at some point.

As for exercise, well, I ate my ice cream today using a vigorous yet rythmic arm motion, while sort of in a meditiative trance like state. It was like Ice Cream Yoga. That counts right? ... [groan], I am getting fat. I have to stop eating ice cream :-(

Wonderful Jane, but I think as long as there is a doodle and DK in my life, things will never be the same.

Thanks for sharing such an encouraging story and reminding us it does get better with time.

Oh Jane!  You are too funny.   I have to agree with you on getting the puppyness stage behind.  As much as I just love Rua to pieces and would love another "baby", when I get home from work, I just ant to relax.

My sisters are here so I haven't been on DK much.  But I have some pictures to post soon.

So happy for you Jane! Stuart is a trooper! Hope it continues to go well and congrats on that bike ride!

So funny Jane...golf is exactly the reason I didn't add another "dood" to the family this Spring. One of my best friends did and she was bugging me like crazy to get a puppy with her, but I said if I ever do, it has to happen in Winter! Especially since our golf season is only 4 months at the Most!!! I'll stand in the snow and freeze potty training before I give up golf and biking!

Stuart is really growing - I'm assuming he is NOT a miniature :) He is precious. Don't you love the swimming thing? Hunt is an avid swimmer and jet skiier...biker...boater...If I could just get him on the driving range....what is wrong with people they let little kids on????
