Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I made my pick last night!! For those of you following my story, he was pup #3, the lightest of the 3 red boys. He also is the biggest of the litter, and weighs 6 lbs at just over 5 weeks old!! His name will be Gumbo (I live in Southern Louisiana and wanted a strong yet cute Southern name). I am super excited to get him in a few more weeks!! Yay!! Now for some fun! I'd like to hear your predictions of what Gumbo may look like as an adult.(coat, size, color etc).. His mom is Standard red Poodle 43 lbs and Dad is F1 GD Phil at 70 lbs. What do y'all think he may look like? Does he look like your dog? I'd like some guesses!!
Y'all meet Gumbo!
And here he is with his dark red brother
I think by looking at his paw he will be very big. What do y'all think?
Here is red standard poodle mom 43 lbsAnd here is F1 GD dad 70 lbs
Breeders and Owners...Wanna make any guesses what my little Gumbo will look like?

I thought #3 had the best coat becasues it looked looser. F1Bs tend to be very hard to maintain without shaving unless you are at one of the two extremes of a hairy coat or a poodle look alike. The tend to get matts of hair within the wool coat. We had a middle of the road F1B, and as much as we loved him (perfect dog), I swore I would never have another due to the coat. He once went from 70 something lbs to 50 something lbs during one haircut (archived on one ofthe other doodle forums somewhere). I'm guess his coat will be closer to the Dad's (who has a very dense coat for an F1). A better pair would have been a poodle with a less dense coated F1 to get F1Bs. You will have smooth sailing for the first 6-7 months then the coat will get tough, don't let it get away from you.
He looks like the perfect little guy. The waiting is the worst part!!!
I think you made the right choice. He has the sweetest face and now the sweetest name. Keep us updated with photos as you continue on your Golden Doodle journey!
I agree that his color will be like dad's and he will be a bit curlier--but the weight now does not mean that much--I am guessing he will be about 50 pounds, but you really don't know for sure. When my pups left the house and there was a tiny one, it often ended up being the biggest a year later--and the biggest was not bigger than the others at a year--I think it often depends on how fast they eat when young since they are competing with sibs. When they get home and get their own food bowl, the differences no longer exist.
In the last litter i raised, a girl that was in the middle weight-wise is now just 22 pounds and her sibs are all in the 30s...so you never know.
And LOVE the name!
You couldn't get a better combination and he was my choice of the puppies also. Love his name! You can't really tell what the pup will look like as an adult, but it will be so much fun watching him grow and mature. I think he will look very much like his daddy but with a little curlier coat. I love, love, love the coats of the F1b goldendoodles. I think it was a great choice.
Great name and a gorgeous puppy! Don't forget-lots of photos, please!
Love the name Gumbo! I predict lots of unconditional love coming your way....
