Be.Still.My.Heart. LOVE!!
Oh My, If we are on a "Cute photo of 2 doodles" campaign, I will be all in. My two are best buddies and always together.
A king sized bed is a must in a multi doodle home. Unless you want them to sleep in their own beds. THe heart pose just happened. Im not that creative!!!
We also have a King Sized bed which they are invited to join me for our "morning cuddle" ...they love it love it love it and I feel so very special.
I truly think now that I have 2 it is double everything, including the love and pleasure they give me.
You guys are KILLING me with these photos! LOL
Lyndy- I'm right there with you! Winnie will be 2 in February and many times in recent months my husband and I have gone back and forth with trying to decide whether to get another one or not.
Gracie sounds a LOT like Winnie was during her early puppy months. I seriously nearly went crazy from all of the nipping, biting, constant activity, etc. And, that has been a huge factor in considering a second puppy. I honestly don't know if I could handle another year of mayhem. As much as I love pups, I also love having a peaceful house and a peaceful heart. The ideal situation for us would be to find a 3-4 year old well behaved doodle that needs a good home. But, those seem to be very rare...
Adult doodles are in shelters! You have to look past the filth, the matting and not be picky about true genetic heritage - i.e. if it looks like a doodle, is sweet tempered, then it is a doodle!! In the long run it is the temperament and the 'look' and not the genes.
I have to agree about the sweet tempered doodles. When we brought Elli, (6yr. according to the vet) into our home she was a "wild child"...we are her 3rd home...but her incredibly sweet demeanor blew me away! I knew Skadi was sweet, but Elli is twice as sweet (please do not tell Skadi I said this ;) ) ...so with some training and lots and lots of consistency with what I learned., Elli who will turn 7 this December (according to the vet) has become a welcomed addition to our pack. Who says "too old to learn new tricks?" Not here. I am thrilled I hit the jackpot with Elli.
I would love it if I could find an adult doodle in a shelter. Unfortunately, in my area about 80% of shelter dogs are pit bulls or pit bull crosses. I spent 1/2 the afternoon today doing some online searching, and found only 1 doodle within a 500 mile radius, and she had diabetes... :-(
You are probably right about finding a "well-behaved" older doodle that is in a shelter or needs to be re-homed. But if you invest in these "unwanted" gorgeous creatures with training and patience you just might become the happiest doodle mom on the block! I am planning to write an update on our first year with our "re-homed" doodle and the ups and down. Hope you saw this picture I posted in the slideshow...this says it all for me...and she came off Craigslist!
