Please make sure that your CEL PHONE NUMBERs are on your dogs tags.

We almost lost Shayna tonight.  Fortunately, my cel phone rang, someone had found her.

To make a long story short we took their electric fence collars off to change the batteries, Boomer and Shayna went out and were no where to be found when called.  Boomer finally came home but Shayna was lost.  About 45 minutes later i got the call on my cel.

Please no discussions on electric fences - the important thing is for them to ALWAYS have their electric fence collars on and to have cel phone numbers on tags.

Just got new tags and had the cell added.  So glad she is home safe and sound.
As new e fence owners - I appreciate the warning.  I can see how this could happen.
Andy - one question - on my boys e collars their is no metal ring to attach a tag to, does your have a ring on it or did you just add one?  I googled looking for a replacement collar that might have the ring and can't find one.  I wish that I could order them with it sewn on but I haven't found anyone doing that either.
Jane, are you talking about a sleeve that slides over the collar with your contact info?  If so, I might me able to help you.
On the boys e - collars there is just the transmitter and the closure (clasp).  It isn't like their regular collars that have their tags hanging.  I'd like the boys to learn that the e-collars are for free run yard time by only having them wear the e-collar when at yard play and teach them that their regular collar means that we can walk out the driveway for a walk around the neighborhood.  But should they ever breach the e-fence their is NO contact info on the dogs (they are both chipped).  So would this sleeve you are taking about go over the transmitter or should I have dh punch a hole in the e-collar, add a ring and put on a tag.  Just wondering how others handle this as I would prefer that they don't wear both collar at once or am I wrong in that thinking.

Jane, most of the collars the strap can be removed to slide an ID tag over the strap.

Here you can buy engraved tags that slide over the strap.

I'm not familiar with the collars for e-fences, but with regular e-collars the rubber strap is not real flexible.  So the collar has to be on fairly tight for the contact points to touch the skin.  Replacing the strap with one made from webbing allows it to make contact with the skin and not be so tight.

Here is where I bought a quick release replacement strap to replace the rubber strap.

I have my dachshund wear both collars when she's out in the yard, then I take the e-collar off her when she comes back inside. For walks, I just don't put the e-collar on her and she definitely knows that no e-collar means she can go out of the yard.

She is chipped, but I don't trust most people to check for that. I never take her normal collar off her.

Thanks, glad it turned out positive!
Great reminder.  I just had Remy's tag made up yesterday and I put the home and cell number on them.
Sedona's tag has all the pertinent info, but I'm going now to check its readability.  Thanks for the reminder...
So glad Shayna is home and safe. How scary!!
Thank you so much for the reminder!
