Toby has a habit of wanting to go out and come in about 9000 times in an evening (slight exaggeration for effect). We watch t.v. in the living room, and the sliding doors we use to put him out are just off the living room, in the dining area. He just wants to go in and out so much! I'm afraid not to put him out in case he actually has to pee, but it gets old in a hurry. We can't sit down in our rec room with Toby yet, because he gets too antsy down there and wants to come upstairs Anyway, there's probably nothing anyone can tell me that will help, I'm just venting a little.

A puppy door is fantastic!
Sounds like Rosco! I think after he's peed a couple times I would crate him for sanity or tether him to you so he can't go and beg to go out. Is he drinking MORE at night?
No - I think he just goes out because he can. Once he relaxes he just lays with us. Maybe Rosco and Toby are long lost brothers.....or at least cousins. :)
Halas does this too. You never know, something may have changed in the last few minutes since he was out there the last time.
How old is Toby? If he's a puppy, I would start taking him out on a leash just for potty when he asks to go out - no play. He should learn that begging to go out will only get him a short leashed walk. Then let him out to play on your terms (make him sit or something first).

If he's older, you really need to just ignore him when you know he doesn't need to go. Kirby also wants to go out 100x a night and when he acts bratty about it (which he often does) we tell him "no" and "go lay down". It's especially tough with him - he LOVES being outside and will just wander the yard himself for 20-30 minutes.

Good luck - I would advise working on this. Kirby had us very well trained by his begging and it took awhile to break it.
For the most part I think that they're just pulling our legs. It's their idea of an evenings entertainment. at least it sure looks to be that way around here an awful lot of the time when I am the most relaxed. another trick is diving into the centre of the newspaper that i am holding between my hands
LOL. My guys do this (the younger one more so).

Once you seen him go, you know it's not becuase he needs to go again. My guess is you are watching tv and Toby is bored - it's the same with us. We're settled and unwidning for the night which is boooring to my dogs, so they get attention any way they can - and they know we will let them out if they ask.
