I should have put it here but it is in the video section.  I might add that Stuart ate all his dinner and is playing like a crazy puppy with his brother at the moment.  Seems fine except for the shaking of his head.

 

 

Stuart has been napping this afternoon and as I just walked past him I noticed that his head was shaking - kind of like a back and forth, palsy sort of thing.  He was awake with his eyes open.  He now is acting "off".  Not as much energy.

The two things that I can place the blame on is

1.  yesterday a.m. he got his flea and tick application but that has been 30 hours ago. 

2.  then this a.m. at about 8:00 we went to the dog park and he got stung on the lip by a honey bee. 

3.  oh and lets add it to the mix the "dreaded zap from the fence.

Any ideas?

Wow, this company doesn't allow much training time before the zap!  We had to train for 2 weeks before we were supposed to run them through the fence, and we actually waited a little longer before we did it just to be sure.  Don'tt really know much about the reactions to different things, but hope he gets better real soon.  Of course it has to happen on the week-end when the vet is probably closed.  Keep us posted.

Lucy - I'm very mad about the zap.  I read the brochure today that they gave us after he had let both boys get the shocked and the brochure said to train for 2 days to just the "beep" warning - then after that the zap IF needed.  Shocked my boys for no reason in my book and I will be talking to him on Monday.  He'll be getting NO recommendation from me.

Definitely Benadryl - that will let you know pretty quickly if it's the bee sting.  Keep us posted!

I've never seen one in a dog and this was mild - not like severe or anything.  Right now dh has taken Stuart swimming in our pool to wash the flea & tick off.  And he is having a blast so I think he is o.k. but if I see him palsy like that again or if he gets sick in any way - off to the ER we would go.

I agree that it might be a seizure.  My GR had epilepsy and this "rocking" of the head back & forth was part of every seizure and she would definitely seem "out of it" for several minutes afterwards. Would usually take her several minutes to seem like herself again, and this was usually accompanied by heavy panting.  I hope that it's not a seizure & something much more minor, but just keep an eye on him.  If he has another episode, call the vet.  Hope Stuart feels better soon.

There is what is called a post ictal state after seizures when people or animals can seem "out of it" or behave strangely.

Jane, I remember reading that one of the side affects from spot ons in certain breeds can cause seizures.  Here are a couple links discussing it.

I hope it is simplest problem -  the bee sting. However, when my dogs have been stung, they just swell up with no other visible reactions.  I hope Stuart is better quickly.

Poor Stuart, I hope it's all better now, is this his first flea protection? Hopefully the pool washed it off if it was, sounds like a reaction.

As for the IDIOT who ran your boys through the shock I wish I could shock them. Seriously, what is wrong with that person?!?!?
