Anyone have a cavi-poo-chon?  I agree that is pretty darn cute.  See the article linked below.

I personally think that is a freaky looking dog, it looks like a stuffed toy. I love all dogs though but I love my two doodle boys who I think are the most gorgeous dogs in the world. The new dogwalker says she can't get a proper walk in with all the people stopping her to ask about them! I have had Maltese for years and GSD's and Poodle crosses. I can't get excited about yet another mixed breed I'm afraid. I see the shelters are full of little ones that people thought they could just carry around like handbags :(

Very cute...but then again I LOVE ALL DOGS...all different sizes, shapes and colours...they are all beautiful and unique in their own ways...just like humans...the world would be a boring place if we were all the same:)

My neighbor just got a red and white cavachon. It is one of the cutest dog's I've ever seen. Such a tiny furball.

For me, I prefer big dogs. Spud is so tiny to me and he weighs 61lbs :) I'm used to twice his size.
Temperament above all else. So, this pup is probably not going to be for everyone.
A nice dog, a happy dog, a healthy dog, is the perfect dog

Me too! I am in love with most giant breeds, and so many large breeds. I personally don't know if I'd consider a small breed. But there are definitely wonderful small breeds as well, I'm just more of a big dog kind of person. :-)

And I completely agree about your statement on the perfect dog!

Amen to your last sentence, Joanne.

Chance is my first small dog, and I am still getting used to that.  But I wouldn't trade him for anything now that he is in my life.

Adorable little guy!  Interesting article, too

The writer of this article is terribly misinformed. Any reputable breeder and for whatever reason the writer lumps in groomers with them would agree with the statement quoted from the animal behaviourist. All the groomers I know would agree with the Arden person quoted. Any dog "teacup" bred makes me so sad. They are so vunerable to health problems.

There is also a huge nationwide media blitz/marketing campaign on the part of the breeder. This article is #9 on Yahoo's "Trending Now" list. Thousands and thousands of versions of this very same article, all over the internet. Just in time for Christmas.

Describing any breed or mix as the "perfect dog" is never a good idea, and the dogs suffer for it. I expect we'll see lots of these dogs on Petfinder next year.

Amen.  Weren't we just looking at Timshell Farms in some discussion a few weeks ago? And there were so many red flags there? These little guys may be adorable but labeling them as "perfect?" OMD!  And breeding a "teacup" anything is just cruel. I cared for a teacup poodle a couple years ago --such a sweet little dog in a body that didn't work from the beginning because it couldn't.  It makes me so sad. Yes, rescue and the shelters will be busy...as always.

There is also almost no breed more frail and more prone to health problems than a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They suffer from a genetic disease called Mitral Valve Disease, which affects 50% of all Cavaliers by the age of 5 years, and virtually all of them by the age of 10, if they live that long.

Because of this, there are extrensive breeding protocols recommended for cavalier breeders, including not breeding any dog before the age of 5. I wonder if the breeders of the Cavaliers used to create these mixes followed the recommended protocols. Cavaliers have the shortest life span by far of any of the toy breeds, only 7 to 14 years. Contrast that with a Yorkie's lifespan of 17-20 years. I think anyone considering a cavalier or Cavalier mix should be aware of this.

I've seen some documentaries on this, it's so terribly sad. There is also a terrible condition called Syringomyelia that affects them.... so awful.
