Jack is the most easy going, loving dog. He loves people, he loves to be pet by just about anyone, he will let a child pull on him, squeeze him and do just about anything.

Saturday we went to a Halloween party, there were a ton of people and children there all wearing scary masks.. The kids got right up in Jacks face, though the only thing he could see was the scary mask, he just liked the masks like he would lick any kids face... He was not spooked or scared in the least.

Tonight I had to go back to  Lowe's for the third time today... (getting ready for the handy man to come and do a million things for me) anyway, Jack loves Lowe's and they love him, We walked in and several people who work there who have never seen him before went right up to him and hugged him, petted him etc.. They never ask if it is okay, they just do it.. but I know he is fine with people.

Tonight as we were leaving, a man came up to Jack, he was not any different then any other man that Jack has been around in appearance, nothing out of the ordinary. This man got five feet from Jack and Jack who was waiting in line with me.. started barking and growling.... I quickly corrected him which is my knee jerk reaction thing to do.. Jack was just pet by about six different men in the store and was fine..

All of a sudden this man that Jack was growling/barking at opened his silly mouth and started acting like an idiot.,,, He may have been drunk I am not sure, it was Lowes and it was late... The guy actually started teasing Jack, throwing chocolate candy on the floor asking him if he wanted it.. I picked Jack up in my arms but this guy was being such a doof, he was saying cookie cookie cookie to him.

I told him to not say that to my dog unless he actually had a dog cookie for him and to Not tease him . He continued to act like an idiot but I was in the middle of being rung up so I couldn't leave, Jack was in my arms and he was being quiet because I originally told him to..

Anyway, my question is how did Jack know he was a jerk before the guy was even near us or opened his mouth>> Geeze I wish I would have had Jack in my early 20's he could have saved me a lot of heart ache with Jerks..

I quickly in front of the guy told Jack that he was a good boy and I was sorry for making him stop barking.. I told the guy to be quiet please and leave my dog alone, I said no wonder he barked at you, he could tell you were not a nice person and were going to tease him.. The guy was so obnoxious and continued with the word cookie over and over again.,.

Jack very rarely barks at people but when he does it is looking like more and more he has good reason

Anyway, is your doodle a good judge of character too?

Nope. I was once again surprised by Calla's reaction to a cousin of mine. This cousin loves dogs and works with them. She hasn't seen Calla often but she has always been nice to her. But Calla doesn't like her. She barked practically nonstop during our visit. Even when offered a treat she approached reluctantly, took it and barked. It wasn't that she smelled dogs since Michelle was in clean clthes. Also, Calla started barking as soon as the car door opened. She likes other dogs usually anyhow. Calla has done this, in aless extreme fashion, with only a cuple of other people. WTD?

Like Calla, Porter's judgement is not flawless.  He barks at the UPS guy who is so nice and has a dog of his own, but I do think the truck is part of the offensive package in his case.  He also barks at one of my husband's cousins--I think he has what Cesar would call "nervous energy."  Oh, and another cousin--Porter whores himself for that one.

Anyway, I think dogs can smell better than we give them credit.  Even though we KNOW that have a better sense of smell than we do, it is just too hard for us to imagine what their world is like.  I have no doubt Jack smelled that the man in Lowes was "off"--whether that was brain-chemical off or alcohol or what, I don't know.  Even Calla, I am sure she can smell your cousin's dogs whether she has changed clothes or not.

Once I was driving Porter to a groomer while we were on vacation, and even though she came with high recommendations from the girlfriend of the cousin who Porter lavishes with love, I was still nervous.  So, I made my voice sound normal and lured Porter in the car.  After a couple minutes he started shaking.  Why?  Well, I was a little sweaty--fear and nerves sweaty.  It occurred to me in that moment, if dogs can smell cancer through people's skin, detecting my nervous sweat is puppy-play/rememdial scenting.

I've wondered ever since what it would be like if humans went around knowing almost exactly what others are thinking and feeling.  Imagine if you approached an acquaintance and her tail started to do the helicopter wag, or she started to smell like lies.  That would be so crazy, right?

No! Vern barks at everyone. He still barks at my neighbor everyday and she is a wonderful person and loves dogs. He acts like he has no idea who she is every single day. Fudge likes almost everyone.
Good boy Jack! Yes, Chloe is like this! Anyone with a real baggy outfit, hoods, anything out of the ordinary she barks like bonkers. She growls at this over friendly guy with a tiny dog from across the street she just doesn't like this guy. There are also 2 "slow" people in our neighborhood who have come up to her and squeezed her face or grabbed at her ears she will not go anywhere when she sees them coming. The younger one is actually mad at Chloe and DH because he told him to put his hand out palm up instead of grabbing at her head because she is scared, from then on he started growling at Chloe to make her scared. Chloe and Myla other than that LOVE everyone especially kids.
Jack is remarkable.

Lucy is a great judge in character. My DD dated this guy for 3 years.  Each and every time he came over she would jump around like a kangaroo barking at him and would never go up to him.  My DD is now dating someone new, and after Lucy does her first announcement bark that someone is here, she wags her tail and runs to him.

I never did care for #1, so this just sealed the deal.

At first I thought it was because boyfriend #1 had facial hair, but so does #2, so that's not it.

Jack is quite intuitive.  I would have thought the store employees would have asked the guy to leave you alone. I am disappointed in Lowe's.
Sophie is like this with dogs.  Last night was a good example.  She was out with us passing out halloween candy.   She had no problem with any dog all night until right before it was time to go in.  Some guy came by with a boxer (not even real large) and Sophie had a total fit.  And they were nice come play with me barks either.  She sounded really scary.  She has done this a few times with dogs.  It got her sent to her room very quickly last night!  I have no idea what got her all worked up.
Jack has good instincts!  Trav doesn't like people to do anything unusual.  A man was doing lunges as he walked down the sidewalk, and that caused Trav to bark wildly at him.  He took a dislike to a former next door neighbor--wouldn't bark at him, but wouldn't go near him.  I don't know what that was about!
Pat, I think I would bark at someone doing lunges down the sidewalk too! ;o)
Jennifer, I'm sorry this happened to you. It really sounds like there was something wrong with the guy, and I know some dogs who can read subtle differences in body language that result from drinking/drugs or medical conditions and be upset by it. It sounds like Jack was looking out for you as always!
What a good intuitive boy Jack! Stella has yet to demonstrate anything like that.
