Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Twice Maggie did some weird sound and we found what you see in the picture right by her. I emailed the pic to my vet and they called me back to say that they believe it is an engorged tick! The bugger is the size of my pinky nail. She had a tick on her on Thursday at the vet appt. And when I picked her up on Tuesday we found two then. I know the breeder's area is definitely tick country. And mine can be too. But I have never seen a tick anywhere around or in my house. She just goes to the lawn in the back for potty. Her fur is sooo dense that they still could have been there since Tuesday undetected. Or maybe we have them too in my lawn. I myself have not rolled around on the lawn in many a year. My boys don't either because they are allergic to it. So it is frontline plus for us as recommended by the vet. Not thrilled. For as much petting and snuggling I am surprised that we never saw them. Yuck. Apparently Maggie groomed them off her and then spit them out. Poor girl.

Like Laurie and F, we use Frontline Plus and the Lymes vaccination. When you're looking for ticks make sure to check Maggie's feet too. The tick remover tool Laurie was talking about works great.
I pull dogs sometimes for the Doodle Rescue Collective, and most of those dogs have fleas and ticks. The last doodle I got had them all over her, and I spent hours picking them off throught the mats.
Sunny, my doodle, is vaccinated against Lyme, we cleared out all the brush in the woods inside my fenced yard to prevent too many ticks, and both my dogs use K9 Advantix II.
