So, Ginger is 11 months and going through the dreaded "coat" shed. Matts appear out of nowhere, and I am trying to keep up with them. They are under the chin, on the chest, on her sides. She has a grooming appointment in a couple of weeks, so I have been brushing her daily and combing the matts, or cutting them out, if that works. SO I am working on mats, pulling, separating, combing..and all of a sudden a smell this gosh awful smell. I look down, and I realize that I am NOT working on a matt, but pulling, separating and combing....dingleberries....I am totally grossed out! There are a lot more. I am not sure I can make it through this! This is really nasty. Now she won't let me near her bottom and she does the "tuck the tail and run around the table" dance.
Good thing Ginger has a cute face, because she bottom is not so cute!!!

When I groom my doodles and other doodle "customers" I shave the anus area and about an inch in all directions around it including the underside of the tail (the sanitary cut Jane referred to). That really helps keep them clean and comfortable. Ask your groomer to do that for you and then you can keep that short between groomings too.
My Momma dog that is expecting in 8 days got a BIG sanitary trim yesterday in preparation for lots of messy stuff--she looks so big and pink with her belly and tail area shaved down--I will have to post pics--it is pretty darn weird looking.
