Does anyone have either leather or vinyl sofas in their home and let their Doodles go on them? Which is better for durability and comfort?

We have leather sofas and the entire pack likes to lay on them. The leather will get a little scratched if you let nails get too long. But a bit of leather cleaner and/or leather shoe polish makes the scratch marks disappear.
Good to know. I have leather sofas in my family room , which I would primarily use in the summer anyway. But since I got the dooldes I really haven't used it at all to protect the sofas. I realize this is stupid because I don't believe in "show" rooms and what's the point of "stuff" if you don't use it. Next spring the doodles and I will have another room to roam.
Thanaks for your note. We are hoping to be able to use the sofa and love seat with Sydney and Olivia since they love to watch TV with us in our family room. We will be checking out both leather and vinyl to see which may work out better for comfort and durability (and color coordination for our taste, too). We were curious to know if the leather would hold up better than a vinyl.
We love your Doodle Page! Harlow is georgeous! Thanks for the comments on your leather sofas. We are thinking of buying in the New Year and were hoping the Doodles will like to lay on them. Right now we have a fabric sofa and love seat with doggie covers on them. They keep sliding off. So with the leather we are hoping to just keep a blanket or throw on them.
We have leather too. Pretty durable. I bought them when we got our last dog from lazy boy and special ordered them. I picked the leather from the samples that didn't scratch easily. The salesperson actually told me to go ahead and scratch the samples if I wanted to be sure I got what I wanted! I use a leather cleaner on it just like Nina says and it takes away any dirt and minor scratches that happen to be there. Not so sure about vinyl. My grandma used to have vinyl and it would get hard and crack, but I am sure it is better than that now.
I am going to show this post to my DH! I have been driving him NUTS for a leather sectional :-)
I have a leather Ethan Allen recliner and large ottoman and it is very durable. They have lifetime guarentees for any repairs including pet damage at most stores we have purchased leather furniture from. Might be useful. I just use a leather cleaner/conditioner. When I first trim their nails I lay a quilt over the ottoman until they are smoother. The leather is very resiliant and I was told will be more forgiving with pets than vinyl. Ofcourse that was a salesman talking, so I don't know first hand. But the leather is nice and wearing well with 2 dogs.
i have leather and cloths i prefer leather it does scratch but my cats do more damage than my dog does
I have black leather sofa, love seat, etc. and two doodles. They love them, and I think the leather is holding up very well. I use that vanilla smelling fabreze leather/everything spay cleaner on them. No scratch marks.
3 months prior to our getting Rooney I had a leather sectional custom made for us in a light cream color. Rooney isn't allowed on it but he has put his paws on it trying to get up a few times. I'm afraid it will get scratched so he isn't going to be allowed. This is the rule today - lets talk in 3 months - lol.
Yes to both. The vinyl has scuff scratches that show in certain light, the leather does not. The leather is "Italian" (whatever that means). Both couches are in the den and both are used by the dogs and us daily. I wipe the vinyl because it shows dust, and once in a while I wipe the leather couch with a damp paper towel. Guess I am not into correct leather etiquette.
We have leather furniture and leather interiors in our cars. It just seems to be more dog friendly and we are a very dog-friendly family. The dogs are on the furniture all the time and we have not even tried to keep them off of it. We use the big bottles of armaral from Costco for cleaning. To us, leather just feels much better than vinyl and it cleans very easily. Some leather furniture has vinyl backs because it is cheaper so they use it on the parts your body does not touch. Scratches rub out pretty easily, but keep toenails trimmed to help with the scratching. Our biggest problem was sun scorched leather. The dogs love to lay on the couchs and look out the windows so I need to keep the backs of the couches covered to keep then from getting sunburned.
