Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

*****The owner has contacted me and she will be checking us out here on DK!  More info to follow***As many of you know we have talked for YEARS about having a DK meet up where we could all bring our doodles.  It just has never happened and although some of us are meeting this year to go on a Doodle Lovers Cruise - the doods are not welcome - LOL.

WELL DO I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS but I need your feedback NOW.  How many people would SERIOUSLY (like in use your vacation, spend the money, etc) be open to taking your dogs to a Camp where they are off leash (unless taking part is some special training classes) to hike, do yoga, swim, canoe, sleep in your cabin with you?

That is right - I have found the perfect place and have sent them a message asking if they would accomodate a special "group" - US!!!!   We would need 50 people at that is the max per camp session (4 days).  I don't know the full cost per person yet but am finding out.  If we couldn't get 50 people perhaps we could just all sign up for a session together, knowing that other - non doodle dogs would be there too.

I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK NOW - as I have contacted the owners.  Once I hear back from you - I'll share the website so that you can all take a look

From their website

Take your dog on a 4-day weekend retreat to the beautiful relaxing countryside. Enjoy the company of other dogs and dog lovers, immerse yourselves in nature, celebrate the full free expression of your dog's dogness, and learn to think like a dog. You and your pooch will love it!

Each camp session offers dogs and their people a 4-day weekend retreat organized to be fun, satisfying, relaxing, and educational. The schedule is planned to keep the dogs active and participatory. Presentations and workshops teach campers how to take the best care of their dog. Sports and athletic activities led by experts engage the dogs and help campers understand how to maximize their dog's abilities. Participation in activities is optional, and some campers may choose to simply relax by the lake with their dogs.

Wait, I didn't read, where is it? I would totally do this!!!!!!! Is it in the south? please say it is in the south?? I have two weeks vacation and I would like to get away someplace warm with the doodles this winter.

Sherri - I don't want to get anyone's hopes up till I hear back from them - I don't think they do winter camps but I'll be finding out.  I am thinking that it might be more like Sept. 2013.  Can you hang on that long.

P.S. - You can drive down (with the doods)  to Ft Myers this winter for a visit!!!!!

Jane, I'm up for NC if that's what everyone chooses. That invite is very sweet, and very tempting! I think we worked out last winter that it would be 3 days of straight drivig for me to make it to Ft Myers, but if I get desperate this winter I just might take you up on it.

My neice just checked into her dorm this weekend at Florida Gulf Coast....WHAT?!???  So, if I make a trip to visit you up for a play date?

I think maybe the title wanted to say "WITH OUR DOODLES", not "WITH OUT DOODLES" ...

Anyway, it would be a possibility for us depending on the when where cost etc.  I know a camp like this that we considered last year but the cost for 4 days, sleeping in a bare bones cabin was more than a nice resort for a week so we opted not to go.

Lucy - ha ha - fixed it.  I'm wondering if we are talking about the same place.  I'm sure it is not inexpensive - but if we planned this far out it would give us all time to save.  I do know that there are tons of free sessions for all kinds of things dog that are included plus all the people food.  Some of the activities are;

DIY Grooming, Canoeing with your dog, Clicker training, Gentle Yoga, Bark & Crafts, Canine Aromatherapy, Disc Throwing, Canine Massage, and you can get you Canine Good Citizen (but you'd need to be training ahead of time) as a 1 day session might not be enough for some dogs.

Sounds like fun, but am restricted by the when, where, and how much ( as in time to get there and cost of attendance). Love to see the full website! Thanks, Jane!

Well why not just let everyone take a look NOW  www.campunleashed.com

CHECK IT OUT!!!!  I'm thinking Sept. of 2013 in North Carolina!!!!!

Yep, this is the one that we checked out I think it was last year.  It was my understanding that they only do two session per year in NC, one in the Berkshires and I think that they were starting one in San Francisco but not sure if they ever did.  That is because all the workshop people are included I'm sure.  When I looked at it to get a bare bones cabin for DH and I it was going to be over $2000 (plus the cost of getting there) for the four days and of course two of those four are the arrival and departure days so wouldn't be complete days.   If you wanted to be even more primitive in your camping or double up in cabins it was a little cheaper.   Yes, that does include food and all of the workshops etc., but we just decided that was a little too much (for us) for a 4 day trip.  If a bunch of you want to do it though for 2013, I would get signed up early as if I remember right it does fill up fairly quickly.

Here is a link to a previous conversation from a member who goes.  I think that Sharon Boo and Cricket have been as well:

I've sent Kay (a DK member who works for the Camp) a message also but she is not active on DK.  I'll wait till I hear back from the owner and chieft woof officer!  Love that.

Sounds great, but it's too far for us. Also, September is way too late since my DH starts school by then (a HS teacher). Bummer.

Omg how fun would this be? But drive from AZ to NC with two doodles? That will be a road trip!! I think I would be interested if DH would do it with me.
