Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

*****The owner has contacted me and she will be checking us out here on DK!  More info to follow***As many of you know we have talked for YEARS about having a DK meet up where we could all bring our doodles.  It just has never happened and although some of us are meeting this year to go on a Doodle Lovers Cruise - the doods are not welcome - LOL.

WELL DO I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS but I need your feedback NOW.  How many people would SERIOUSLY (like in use your vacation, spend the money, etc) be open to taking your dogs to a Camp where they are off leash (unless taking part is some special training classes) to hike, do yoga, swim, canoe, sleep in your cabin with you?

That is right - I have found the perfect place and have sent them a message asking if they would accomodate a special "group" - US!!!!   We would need 50 people at that is the max per camp session (4 days).  I don't know the full cost per person yet but am finding out.  If we couldn't get 50 people perhaps we could just all sign up for a session together, knowing that other - non doodle dogs would be there too.

I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK NOW - as I have contacted the owners.  Once I hear back from you - I'll share the website so that you can all take a look

From their website

Take your dog on a 4-day weekend retreat to the beautiful relaxing countryside. Enjoy the company of other dogs and dog lovers, immerse yourselves in nature, celebrate the full free expression of your dog's dogness, and learn to think like a dog. You and your pooch will love it!

Each camp session offers dogs and their people a 4-day weekend retreat organized to be fun, satisfying, relaxing, and educational. The schedule is planned to keep the dogs active and participatory. Presentations and workshops teach campers how to take the best care of their dog. Sports and athletic activities led by experts engage the dogs and help campers understand how to maximize their dog's abilities. Participation in activities is optional, and some campers may choose to simply relax by the lake with their dogs.

Tell Fudge not to be a party pooper!

Laurie if you and dh came to camp - one of you could take Fudge for a day and the other Vern - then switch.  There is plenty to do for the outdoorsy type dog but lots of other things for those (Rooney) that aren't so much that way.  Look at the website.

Totally offended, Laurie,  'cuz I suspect you're talking about me  (tears, tears, tears...)

Doris, NEVER :)

I have looked at Camp Unleashed before. Although I would love to do camp, the closest I've come as an adult was a small ship Alaska cruise, one of my favorite vacations. But Asheville is a 12 hour drive from NJ and I couldn't even do that in 2 days one way so I could not make it. And the south in hurricane season again? Here's an alternative : )

This will be much closer to home for me.

There is a similar camp in Western Massachusetts--I have not been in contact with them, but we could have more than one opportunity in different regions of the country.

Now you have me interested. Massachusetts and the one I listed above is in Lake George.

Hey guys - we can all do whatever we want but everyone is ALWAYS talking about us all getting together with the doodles.  So yes the Berkshires is another of their options BUT I was trying to go with the local that might be most central for the majority.  So if we are splitting into two locations how is that getting us all together.  Sigh - this is just why it never happens.

It will never happen that ALL active members can get together--it's too complicated, but you're doing awesome by taking the reigns and trying for a get together.  I thought that next time we take a road trip to SoCal we could take the kids and dogs...but then my mom went and got two cats so that's out.  It is just too much work to manage Rosco around cats.  I don't know that he'd hurt them, but he's way too excited and untrained around them and it freaks me out.  There aren't too many other places I can think of that I would take dogs and kids simply because it would involve visiting friends or family who don't do dogs :/

My dogs are learning about cats from a stray that has taken over my entire yard--I am actually grateful to him because my three doods now know that cats have claws, they have very good aim (can hit a doodle nose from 3 feet away) and are not lunch meat. They make a big circle around cats now instead of chasing them around. LOL! You need to introduce Roscoe to a cat like that!

He MET one like that at 14 weeks.  Apparently he's never forgotten and wants to return the favor I think ;-)
