Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

*****The owner has contacted me and she will be checking us out here on DK!  More info to follow***As many of you know we have talked for YEARS about having a DK meet up where we could all bring our doodles.  It just has never happened and although some of us are meeting this year to go on a Doodle Lovers Cruise - the doods are not welcome - LOL.

WELL DO I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS but I need your feedback NOW.  How many people would SERIOUSLY (like in use your vacation, spend the money, etc) be open to taking your dogs to a Camp where they are off leash (unless taking part is some special training classes) to hike, do yoga, swim, canoe, sleep in your cabin with you?

That is right - I have found the perfect place and have sent them a message asking if they would accomodate a special "group" - US!!!!   We would need 50 people at that is the max per camp session (4 days).  I don't know the full cost per person yet but am finding out.  If we couldn't get 50 people perhaps we could just all sign up for a session together, knowing that other - non doodle dogs would be there too.

I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK NOW - as I have contacted the owners.  Once I hear back from you - I'll share the website so that you can all take a look

From their website

Take your dog on a 4-day weekend retreat to the beautiful relaxing countryside. Enjoy the company of other dogs and dog lovers, immerse yourselves in nature, celebrate the full free expression of your dog's dogness, and learn to think like a dog. You and your pooch will love it!

Each camp session offers dogs and their people a 4-day weekend retreat organized to be fun, satisfying, relaxing, and educational. The schedule is planned to keep the dogs active and participatory. Presentations and workshops teach campers how to take the best care of their dog. Sports and athletic activities led by experts engage the dogs and help campers understand how to maximize their dog's abilities. Participation in activities is optional, and some campers may choose to simply relax by the lake with their dogs.

Well, despite the fact that you Mom got cats we'd love to see some more of her artwork. My son has two cats and a dog. I'm allergic to cats and haven't been in his apt. for several years. I think it's all calculated.

The camp in the Berkshires is very close to me--and we have lots of bears in the woods around here!! Not that any of you would be afraid or anything like that....

Nah, we have bears in the woods in NJ too. : )

I looked at this last year and would love to come...more fun with all my friends and their doodles, also doable as a drive.

I love this idea.  I am not sure we DKer's need classes on how to take good care of our dogs.  I would rather spend the money do something like a petfriendly "resort" where we all stayed and organized our own doggie activities.  Asheville is a beautiful place.

The problem is - no one is ever willing to actually get something organzied and pulled together.  These people do this as their business - and I'd bet if enough of us were going that they come up with some doodle specific activities.

As the devil's advocate: I would like them to offer a group discount if DK came up with 50 campers.  As is, I suspect this trip would be a thousand or more, depending on the distance and price of gasoline.  For a long weekend, that is a bit steep if you are living on a fixed income.  It would require saving a hundred dollars a month for a year...more than pennies.

It never hurts to ask :)   However if we can't fill up an entire "extra" camp (and reading here I doubt we could get 20 people let alone 50 ) for them then there would be no chance because the regular camps SELL OUT.

Knox and I will drive to NC, grab you, Webber, Seda, Ronna, Murphy and Wilson, and GO!

Now THAT would be a road trip we would never forget :-)

The owner will be getting back to me with some information and I'll let you all know what I find out but I got to tell you - reading back through this post, it becomes clear why an actual Doodle Meet Up on any type of scale is never going to happen :(      We can't please everyone --  their dogs, their schedules, their budgets, their driving distance, or vacation type.  I posted this to see how many people might HAVE interest in going as a group to camp.  At least I TRY to come up with ways for us to have an opportunity to meet.  Many people (me included) wished the Doodle Lovers cruise would have allowed our doods but sadly they are not allowed.  If anyone else would like to come up with an idea, get it planned - I'd be all for that.

Jane, it is good of you to try to do this but it may just not be feasible for a nationwide meetup to occur. Regional things might be doable. If we were all young, rich and retired I guess nothing would be too much but many of us have trouble meeting all of those requirements. I have always thought it would be good to be retired when you're young and then work when you're older. Somehow that didn't work either : )
