Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am working on a series of blog posts about grooming products for doodles and dogs in general.  I would love feedback as to what other pet owners look for in products.  Do you seek out organic products and are there ingredients you shy away from in products for your pets?  What about price?  How much do you spend on average?  What products do you keep on hand and what do you use regularly?  What are your favorite brands and products?  What conditions (dry skin, itchy skin, ear mites, smell, etc...) do you find yourself keeping at the forefront of your mind when when you shop for products for your pets?  I really appreciate any input you have as I work on posts that are relevant to pet owners everywhere.  Thanks!

Also, just to be clear, I'm not a spammer or a PR agent.  We have 4 pets, one doodle and I just happen to author a blog about my dogs.  I regularly post about my experiences but I know other people have other needs and I'm looking for more information so I can learn about things that are applicable to all pet owners.  For example,  I know very little about wooly coats because my Remy is a fleecy pup. I've learned so much from reading posts on here - things I never would have even thought of.  Thanks!

Cooper has a thick wooly coat that I keep really long (6 inches). I would be lost without my Oster rake - actually im lost without it right now, our moving truck was supposed to arrive 2 days after we did, but its been a month and still no sign.....

I use a slicker pin brush with bent tines (I love the Les Pooches brushes and had the puppy one, im saving for a new bigger one), then use the Oster rake to get out tough mats close to the skin, then a metal comb.

http://www.osterpro.com/Product.aspx?id=groomer&cid=1008&sc... its called a shedding rake, but Cooper doesnt shed. I find the blades cut through the mats really well

I look for all natural, grain free foods (high protein) and treats

Crash tested car harness is a must http://www.kurgostore.com/products/Tru%252dFit-Smart-Harness.html

and I love my waist leash http://www.kurgostore.com/products/Quantum-Leash.html and Coopers matching collar with emergency beer bottle opener!!!! http://www.kurgostore.com/products/Wander-Collar.html

I bought a groomers spray with a silicone in it yesterday. It is supposed to be sprayed on the mat and let sit before combing the mat out. It is also used for a finishing spray. I have never used it before. Funny story, I was just spraying his coat to see how it worked. We played a game of chase and spray as we hadn't been active that much that day. He likes to play chase around the house. I didn't think at all obviously, as we have hardwood floors and i was getting over spray on it and whoops all of a sudden Neely was running away from me and hit a spot of spray on the floor and he slipped and skidded across the floor! My son came home and at his usual I gotta get some where fast pace he hit the spot and skated across it and said what did you put on the floor! So use of silicone based product should be sprayed outside!!
You should contact Kemp (sp??) from DoodleCountry Store. He is a member here and runs an online store for grooming supplies, specializing in doodles. I've read posts from others who said they loved his store and that he is very knowledgeable. He will give you lots of info I'm sure. There is also a grooming group on this site that you can join for information. Would love to see your blog posts when they are done. good luck! :)
