Several weeks ago  Spud had his rabies vaccine and a Bordetella.  I know it is common to have a lump at the injection site but we have a huge mass the size of my hand.  Alarmingly large.  No joke, it must be 5 inches wide, 3 inches high.

You can actually see the swell when he walks toward me. One side is much larger than the other.

It does not seem painful to touch although I have not tried to aggravate it too much.  He is eating and drinking and plays.

So I know others have had injection site lumps, how big does this get?  Or how big would you allow this to get before wondering if this is normal?

It is not a marble size or an egg. I'm talking sandwich size

Update:

Most probable cause is a post-injection site reaction.  Maybe because he was doing a doodle sit pose during the shot and the shot was injected rather low ( almost to the fold of his hip and groin area)  For me, this happened rather late if it is a reaction.

He has no fever, eats, plays, but does favor that area and will get up slowly or run funny almost like a hip dysplasia run. Understandable considering.  He doesnt lick or bother the area.

Steroids injection given to see if some of this inflammation will go down.

At this time, I am going to stop reading the internet about incidents of Sarcoma post Rabies Vaccinations and go enjoy a day off

Thank you for being out there and listening.

If I hide, he wont see me here.

Hugs from my Dad

Spud, I am sending you a big hug!! Glad you went to the vet. The Internet scares me, too, when something is going on with my dogs. Try to enjoy your day off.

Hugs to you guys.  I hope that's all it is, and the steroids help.  Try to enjoy your day!

Get better Spud and you all enjoy the day!!

Spud is super cute. I hope that all goes well and that lump does a disappearing act real soon.  Hugs, hugs and more hugs.

Spud is so sweet hiding and hugging DH. I so hope the steroids help resolve this quickly. Yes, stay off the Internet.

Thinking about you, Spud, and hoping you are lump free real soon!!  Hugs!

Thanks for the update. Hope the lump goes away with the steroids now. Poor baby. I'm NOT going to search the internet for post Rabies vaccination Sarcoma as Auggie is due for his rabies shot next week.

Glad everything seems okay..... Hope the steroids help and he gets that lump to go down.

Awwww....sorry, Spud!   Hope you'll be all better soon.

Thank you for the update, I hope the steroid helps!!

Ya, sometime I would do that, too. Meaning reading whole bunch of horrible possibilities and get sick....

I hope he feels better soon... and you, too

Joanne, our foster had a very sore bump after his rabies injection and my dil's whippet had the same problem.
