I just dropped Maggie off at the vet this morning and felt so guilty I cried when I got in the car(crazy hormones) I know it's best for her but I guess it's because she's my little baby, and I know this surgery is much more invasive than a neuter. I'm worried about bringing her home tomorrow because jace and her always rough house and it's pretty difficult to stop them once they get going, and jace always gets really excited when he hasn't seen her so the playing increases to crazy levels! I know she has to take it easy, any suggestions about how to keep them both calm will be greatly appreciated! TIA

Good luck to Maggie! Don't worry, she'll do fine and it really is the best thing for her.

We had Yogi neutered 2 weeks ago, it is hard watching them wear cones and not throwing toys for them to chase.  I'm sure yours is complicated having 2 dogs, but time will pass and this will be a distant memory soon.  Good luck to you both

Is there a way you can gate the area off where you come into the house so when you return Jace is not able to have access to Maggie.  Or, I guess you could put Jace outside in the yard until you get Maggie settled in the house and then bring him in on a lead. If she is wearing a cone, he may not be that interested in approaching.  He will probably realize something is different and he may not be so excited to see her.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Maggie.  She will be home before you know it.

Can Jace go to Doggy Day care for a few days so he will be too tired to want to interact with Maggie? Also, I think they know when the other is not feeling well and tend to leave them alone. I had my daughter keep our Murphy for a few days when we had Bella spayed, but as soon as she was jumping off furniture and being her normal self, we brought him home, because it didn't really make much difference. I monitored her activity but Im not one to get crazy nervous about it and figured if it hurt she'd stop.
Do you crate? maybe have one in a crate for the initial homecoming tomorrow? Maggie will be pretty mellow probably, and would appreciate a safe quiet place. good luck
((HUGS)). Good luck to Maggie today....and of course, you are absolutely , 100%, doing what is best for her and her overall health. Try to keep yourself busy today, hopefully making the day go by faster.

Awww Emily...Maggie will be just fine...we have all experienced the same guilty feelings...but you are so right it is the very best thing for her.  I really truly feel that it is hardest on us Mommies than it is on them.  If there is anyway to keep them separated, at least for the first couple of days...she really does need quiet time to heal properly.  Sue had a great suggestion about Doggie Daycare...this will help to tucker Jace out.  Good Luck and keep us posted...sending big hugs your way and of course lots of doodle kisses:)

I can understand your anxiety and feeling sad, but Maggie will be fine and up and running around in no time.  Hugs and love to you and Maggie!

Thanks you all!:) I wish there was a doggie daycare in this area but unfortunately there isn't. :( ive wanted to take him multiple times since he loves other dogs so much! I think our best bet would be the crate idea, I'll probably keep her upstairs for the first couple of days and crate her if I'm downstairs and then let her go downstairs when she's feeling better. I'm not sure about the cone, I guess I'll see tomorrow!
Also we do have a gate that's in the house but maggie jumps it and I don't want her to attempt that and really hurt herself

Maybe Jace can go visit a friend?  I have several go to people that like to babysit Yogi.

Good luck to Maggie! Healing thoughts coming your way!

I hope Maggie did well today!
