Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My 9-week-old f1 goldendoodle has a 2-inch "tail" of hair growing from his willy (trying to be PC).  Because he is white, it looks like a long yellow paintbrush. I'd really like to give it a trim, but I don't want to deface his manhood if it's supposed to have hair.

Thoughts?

FYI...the opening is in the prepuce not the penis.  A few months ago I had to drop Cubbie at the vet for non stop licking down there that created a red scabby bump on the side of his "boy part" and I was trying to be all responsible and mature and wrote the vet a nice long note since it was a drop off appointment explaining his licking and the bump that was on his penis.  We apparently, they spent some time actually looking at his penis (red rocket) for the bump I mentioned.  We all laughed about it, especially when I told them that I had NEVER looked at that so they were kind enough to give me a doggie anatomy lesson on penis vs prepuce.

Thanks for passing on the doggie anatomy lesson, Amy!

No problem! That was my most embarrassing doodle lesson so it will always stick with me :)

What opening do you mean? The penis is sheathed in a prepuce so that is an opening through which the penis emerges. But there is an opening in the penis fot the urethra. Just clarifying.

I'm having a good laugh at this one!!!!!  Stuart must be JD distant relative!

Thank you all so much! I think it bothers him because he licks himself to death after he goes ... cleaning himself or ... wait a minute ... eeew. Maybe I should offer him a cigarette? Just kidding. He is my baby. And I'm trimming the tassle!

I do jacks ..I unfortunately just did it a few days ago with a razor and gave him razor burn....I feel so bad.
It does seem that the hair collects urine and bacteria can breed easily there. No reason to not trim really. Just part of a sanitary trim I always assumed and keep Murphy's very short. And I trim Bella's short for the same reason as I feel it's even more important for cleanliness with her.

When the boys were potty training I never trimmed it because it made it really easy for me to tell if they had gone potty when I wasn't paying attention.  My Dh and I would always yell "Pee Pee check"...LOL.  Now it is just a regular part of their monthly grooming.  I tell the groomer to trim the "potty patch" and she gets all the necessary places :)

Ha ha, all you ladies have funny names for the boys "thingermajigs".

Not me, you'll notice I call a penis a penis. :)

Moi aussi : )  I'm equal opportunity and call female parts by their names too.
