So Max, is normally a bit of a suck. He is not aggressive in the least, and he has never been protective. He doesn't even bark when someone comes to the door, or at the mailman. Really the only time he barks is if it is taking me too long to get my shoes on to go for a walk. Now I am not complaining, he's a lover not a fighter, and I like it that way. Before last night the only time he has done any kind of protective type of bark is if the coyotes were near my back fence. He did this low woof bark, which is different from his normal high pitched puppy bark. Anyhow, last night, my husband was snoring up a storm, and I wanted to whack him across the head because I couldn't sleep, it sounded like a bear was sleeping next to me. Rather than whack him across the head, which I am sure he wouldn't enjoy, I snuck into Amanda's room. (Amanda is my oldest daughter, who hasn't actually lived at home in 2 years, but we still call it her room, and have left it basically the same.) I was so happy to have no snoring, and Max jumped up with me curling up for some real restful sleep. At about three in the morning, he stands up on the bed and looks out the window, which I had open because I like it cool at night. He starts doing that low woof bark, and I am of course getting annoyed, it's three in the morning for crying out loud, I say to him, "Max don't wake the bear!" He ignores me and continues to woof, so I sit up and look out the window. I see these four teenage boys walking on the other side of the street. Suddenly two of them run to the neighbors house three doors down, and open up their min van and get in. I knew they didn't belong there. Then the other two come to MY house, and start trying to open my husbands truck, which is unlocked of course, because well, we live in a small town and don't think about it much. Now my husbands truck is a work vehicle, it's filled with all kinds of tools, a coffee holder full of toonies and loonies and apparently last night there was a $500 camera in the truck. Without thinking I yell out my upstairs window, "HEY YOU GET OUT OF MY TRUCK!" So the kids freak out, looking around for the voice that came from the sky, and run like hell. The kids in my neighbors vehicle also run like hell. At this point I'm super excited, Max and I saved the night! I called the police to let them know what happened, and I was so proud of my puppy!

Of course this morning he kind of ruined my proud high just a little bit, because I got up and he had chewed up a flip flop. Oh well, it wasn't mine, it was my husbands.

My super hero dog!

lol, wondering if there were any puddles on the ground cause I bet they peed their pants when you yelled!

One flip flop sounds like a good trade for what was in the truck!  Good boy, Max.

Quincy also woke us up around 3 am - he saved us from the water heater noise as it was cycling on!  LOL!

Thanks Emily :)

Julia I think doodles are like a box of chocolates lol

Thanks Jane it's probably silly of me to be so proud of him for this but I am.

Lucy hahaha I don't know, but when I spoke to the neighbor she said she found 10$ on the ground so they must have dropped it.

Lori it was so funny when I found him with the flip flop. Max never chews anything he isn't supposed to and I know they don't really feel guilt but he did look so guilty. You never know, there could be a monster living in that water heater! Quincy was protecting you from that!

Awesome job Max!!!  Such a good boy, he's saving his bark for when it really matters.

Good job, Max--and Julie!  So glad you were able to prevent these thieves from getting any loot.

Woo Hoo Max!! You are an awesome guard doodle!

Leslie I am so glad he is, his high pitched puppy bark is SUPER loud.

Thanks Pat, I'm glad too.

Ricki that made me laugh the guard doodle, perhaps I should get a sign. :)

This one might be appropriate but it's not as funny as a "guard doodle"!

Wahoo Max!!!

Max IS a superhero and deserves lots of treats today!  Way to go Max.

Max you knew the right time to bark and you ARE a HERO!   Wow, what a story and scary too!   Hope they catch the kids!  Libby just lately has started barking at EVERYTHING that goes by outside, but when she goes to bed (with us) her ears are shut to the world.  I mean that!  She totally goes out and nothing wakes her up!  I'm the one always waking up my DH with something I hear outside!   Go figure!
