Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a feeling I might get teased for bringing this up, but I'm too curious to resist.  I found this site looking for factual information and have found so much more - including an opportunity to contribute in a way that might help others. Now I'm pretty much hooked.

It dawned on me a few days ago that the vast majority of people on here are women.  I did see a discussion group for men, but it didn't seem very popular or active.

Don't get me wrong - I'm definitely not one to complain about being surrounded by too many women.  I am curious as to why people think this might be the case, though.

Are doodles more popular with women?  I never noticed that to be true, although now that I think about it, my ex was the one who discovered the breed.

Or maybe it's because many doodles are owned by couples, and the woman is the one primarily responsible for its care?

Or maybe it's just more in the nature of women to communicate about these things - in other words, the same reason women like to ask for directions when they are lost and men like to figure it out on their own?

I really don't know. I'm interested in hearing what other people think.

My situation is just the opposite. FJ hears all, knows all. He just doesn't comment in it unless I ask. I think it is because I have poor listening skills sometimes in public. Honest, I just get nervous and I hear nothing

Love your answer!!!!

BG...Reading your response made me laugh.  Sounds like me & my husband!

There are active male dominated forums out there, though.  I can't think of any because I don't visit them, but I know there are some!  Must be manly or hunting or techy topics.

Oh yeah, for sure. Reddit definitely has more men, if that can be considered a forum. And my husband is a fan of a band that has an active forum--almost all men. (Most of their fans are men, so that makes sense.)

Guitar forums, too. :)

This is all fascinating!  the difference between men and women!

My DH is always on the ipad or phone looking at golf or skateboarding stuff.  I am usually on facebook, Instagram, and DK.  I think the difference between him and I are that he likes factual stuff.  He reads to get information.  When he wanted to know more about dog behaviors and training...he downloaded ibooks and read them.  When I wanted to know more information, I found a forum with great friends and almost think it's a social media site because it's so fun to be on here!

Also, when I'm on DK I'm usually at work or doing stuff around the house or watching tv.  I think women are better at multi-tasking :)

This is an interesting topic for sure. Women are more inclined to engage in social media than men, in general in my opinion- not just DK. There are hundreds of mom blogs out there but a 'dad blog' is a rarity.  It's just not something you regularly stumble upon.

I know that there are several working women on this site but I also think that women are more likely to stay at home in some capacity (whether stay at home mom or work from home) than men are and that could also have something to do with it. The stay at home moms that I know are also very involved in several online communities.  Especially when they aren't out in the workforce, being online can be the only 'adult interaction' they have for quite some time. My friend has a mom blog and she talks about that all the time.

I think one of the keys is in your first paragraph.  You were looking for factual information.  That's what most of the guys I know do --look for information, with a subtext of competition in there somewhere.

If instead of Doodlekisses this site was named something like:

Kickass Facts About the Toughest and Most Expensive of Mixed Breed Dogs there might be more men.  :)

Or conversations like "My doodle is bigger than your doodle"  :)

Interesting ... yes, I think we generally are all about accomplishing tasks.  I might be putting together a desk and discover I need a hole saw, so I go to the hardware store and get one.  Or you might be grooming my doodle and realize I need to buy a clipper, but that I have no clue which one to buy - so I go online to try to find out.  There is an element of competition in that no matter what I'm doing I usually want to do the best job possible.  I feel disappointment when I come up short and satisfaction for a job well done.

Oh boy am I excited.  i have a special treat just for you.  Stay tuned.

I don't think most men use message boards as a social media.

Women are chattier and tend to be the ones who do the researching on the internet.

My DH left it to me to look up "stuff".
