I buy poop bags and keep them in the car and in my pocket for walks.  I am certain there are many other people that do the same.

HOWEVER...not one stop on the way to get Polly or all the way back did we see evidence of anyone actively using them.  In fact the evidence we found spoke volumes about how many people really don't care about cleaning up after their pet.

Have I ever mentioned that Meg doesn't even like her own mess in her own yard, this was a real challenge for her.

On and I wanted to add try living in a house next to the neighborhood group mailbox. When people bring their pooches with them to get their mail they sometimes let them use our front yard as a potty spot. My grass is always yellow down there and I pick up random poop. Once I saw a lady letting her dog go in my yard and when they were done she just started walking away. I opened my door and yelled "are you going to pick up your dogs poop from my yard or are you just walking away?" She gave me a dirty look but later that night, the poop was gone! :)

My BIL has never had pets and has a beautifully manicured lawn.  His neighbours dog would always come over and poop on it. My BIL didn't want a huge confrontation as they are next door neighbours so one day he grabbed his shovel, picked up the poop and went next door, rang the doorbell and asked what he wanted him to do with the poop.  I don't remember what he said, but I do know that the dog never pooped in his yard again!

Your BIL is my hero !!

I am loving all these responses.  I feel like such an opinionated rip about these things but never liked it when we didn't have a pet, never did it with a pet.  If you don't like dealing with 'poop' why bother with a pet?

That's so funny that I read this today, because as we were driving down our main street to get to our house a Husky and his master were standing in front of the condos and the dog was doing his business right in the neighbors flower bed.I told my husband "See ,he never picks it up"!!!  I'm going to hand him a bag next time I see him out!!!!   and what a wonderful surprise when the neighbor does his flower beds...

Thank you all for giving me some great ideas for the next time I encounter this problem!!  Luckily most of our neighbors are good about picking up after their dogs but there always seems to be one.  On another note, I was at a craft fair the other day and one of the exhibitors had a wooden cutout sign that was a dog in the "pooping" position and it said "No Dumping Zone".  I got a good chuckle out of that and almost bought one for my yard, but figured the Home Owners Association may have an opinion on putting it in front of my house.

I live in an area with a HOA that fines owners if they are caught not picking up after their dogs. There are poop bag dispensers conveniently placed throughout the development with trash cans pretty nearby as well. Of course, not everyone abides by the rules, but it's not a big problem. What's nice is knowing that there is recourse if someone leaves a deposit on your lawn, and you don't have to confront them yourself.
