I don't know how the rest of you feel about him but I have lost all respect for the man. How on earth could a reasonable, kind human being ever put their beloved pet on the top of a car in a crate. It makes me sick to think what this poor animal suffered. IMO he should ride on the top of a car at 60 (with a windshield - nice try Mitt) and see how he likes it.Disgusted!

Ok, here is my take:  I had the same reaction as most of you when I saw the headline. 

1)  I'm not in anyway shape or form defending what he did, so please don't think I am.

2)  I think he is as big a YUCK as the rest of them

3)  However, this was in 1983.  In 1983 we were most likely: feeding our dogs purina or maybe science diet or IAMS and thinking we were doing a good thing; letting our dogs ride around without seatbelts; giving them tons of rawhide; letting them ride in the back of pickups (along with the kids); possibly not getting them spayed or neutered; I could go on and on here.  We all have learned a great deal about better ways to take care of our pets and have all (or at least most of us) made mistakes in the past.

That being said, what pissed me off was the way he came across in the interview defending what he did and not even saying it isn't something he would do today.  The fact that the public was upset was of no importance to him.  He seemed to think it was even funny (oh the dog loved it, ha ha).  My guess is given the opportunity he would do it again (maybe not during the campaign).  I think that he missed a big opportunity to right the situation and he blew it!

Just my thoughts.
