Our Friday morning walk got quite interesting when we encountered a coyote on the trail. Usually, they stay away, but this one was very persistent and barked back at Monty. The video is of poor quality, I only had my cell phone with me.

Wow, that is impressive that Monty was so brave. :-)
This would make me very nervous! I can't believe you were able to hold onto Monty and still get this video. I didn't even know that they barked.
My whole arm actually hurts from Monty's pulling.
scary. we lived in the country with the inlaws for 7 months. the last few months the wildlife has been more abundant - coyotes, wolves and bears. My MIL walks with a stick and a whistle, and her dog is an Akbash - so bred to defend, but its still scary. i love the country but sometimes, Im glad we moved into town!
Geez.....I thought geese and ground hogs were bad. Coyotes and wild pigs....I am staying in PA :) Glad everyone was ok.
Thanks Andrea. I am getting a real education here on DK! I never heard of a fisher before this. I looked it up and all I can say is WOW....I hope I never run into one!
This brings back memories. When my kids were small we would try to sight animals to keep them occupied in the car on trips. The first sighting of a species was rewarded. Common things, like a cow or horse, were rewarded with small amounts of money like a nickel or quarter. A fisher was worth about $100, since we never saw one.
Wow, I wonder what would have happened had Monty not been leashed?
We have coyotes right here, a suburb less than 20 miles from Manhattan. They have attacked and killed small pets. There is a rare sighting in New York City itself.
Same here. As the suburbs extend further and further out from the city, their natural habitats have been destroyed. I see them crossing residential streets in broad daylight. And they have been seen in downtown Chicago. Here's one who entered a sandwich shop in the heart of the city during business hours: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17950832/ns/us_news-weird_news/t/coyote...
THAT would scare the C#@P out of me!
Coyotes and bobcats are not very people shy. We see them frequently around here. I always walk with my leashes even when the dogs are off leash and they go on as soon as something of interest pops up. Probably this guy was hungry and smelled interesting food. Of course they will kill small pets because there is nothing else to eat. I feel very sorry for these animals when we have taken away all of the fields and hunting areas for them, but I do not share food with them. That would cause even more problems.
