I don't know about all of you, but I am ready for a lighthearted discussion.  Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday and I would like to hear a funny story or stories about your mother. I have to be careful here because my DD's are on DK, but luckily my mother is not :) My mother will be 85 this May and she has a great sense of humor. She laughs at all my jokes, even when they are about her. I guess growing up she always used to say if someone teases you, they like you, so going by that theory I love her and my family loves me.

My mom is not a big animal person and does not understand why people want pets. She does, however, love Fudge and Vern. Once when my kids were little, I called and told her we were getting a cat. Right away she said if we got a cat then she wasn't coming to stay at our house ever again and when I told that to my DH, we started laughing and yelled to the kids to get dressed, and to please hurry because we were on our way to get a cat that day. She was still on the phone and that cracked her up.

A couple of years ago, she announced to us that she was coming out to our house for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.  According to her, her financial guy said she can afford to come for both holidays.  We told her we thought she should be thinking about getting a new financial guy and that sent her into waves of laughter.

When President Obama was newly elected, she could not stop talking about his possible Health Care plan. My mom still has all her marbles and can get pretty wound up about a subject and kept going on and on about his plan and said it could mean euthanasia for the elderly.   The last time she brought it up, one of us asked her if she knew how to get someone on the list and did it help if more than one family member submitted a name and then we all laughed.

She is beyond competitive and at 85, is in a Wii bowling league and plays every week. If you beat her, you have to keep playing until she beats you. I got her a Mother's Day card this year that says something like They say the Nut doesn't fall to far from the tree and then you open it and it says that scares the hell out of me. Truer words were never spoken. Both my mom and I like to laugh and I see my future before my eyes when I look at her. I think laughter is a pretty great thing to pass on to your children. So, Happy Mother's Day to my funny mom and I would love to hear some funny stories about what makes your mom special.

What a beautiful pair... doodle and mom!
I'm loving all these stories about Moms!  I'm thinking my mother just wasn't very funny.
Your mom sounds like a lot of fun. I can see her sense of humor in her twinkling eyes. Love all the mom stories.
LOL!!!!  Love it!  You're right!  Your Mom looks VERY young...
Caitlin, She is a very young looking mom and that is why I don't like her.....just kidding. That is a super sweet photo and she sounds like a lot of fun!!
ROFL, she sounds like a hilarious awesome person!
It sounds and looks like you have a lot of fun and love at your house, Caitlin! Your mom sounds like a kick!!!
Your mom does look young!

Laurie, you are a NUT just like your Mom. I can't post a story about my Mom right now due to time and the fact that I'm on the verge of tears thinking about this...but I will get it together later hopefully.

I miss her every day...she never met my Louie but she would've thought he was the greatest!

Thanks, Joan!!! I look forward to your story. Don't forget.

I miss my Mum as she was killed in a car crash three years ago so I never really got a chance to say good bye.  I did, however tell her I loved her at the end of every phone conversation so I'm grateful for that.

When I was little we lived in a big house on a very quiet road. The Bus Company decided to put a bus stop (ok the bus only came twice a day) right outside our front wall and Mum thought this was terrible.  Her protests to the company were to no avail so she called me one day to come out with her.  Armed with a bucket and a shovel she spent the whole day digging up the bus stop and we moved it twenty yards up the road.  The Bus company were not amused and put it back outside the house.  Mum and I moved it again.  This went on several times until the company gave up and Mum won.

I just tell that story because it really says a lot about her personality.  She was quite unusual, a pharmacist by profession she only worked part time and spent her afternoons, gardening, doing the cryptic crossword while having a cigarette and a glass of wine.  Just before Dad was due home she would whip out the furniture polish (which she sprayed into the air), don an apron and get busy in the kitchen.  Mum said never to be sitting down when your husband came home from work.  Always let them think you are hard at work!

Of course all this was in a different era, around 45 years ago.  The picture was taken when she was 59 years old.

I'm sorry about your Mom... but love the bus story!!!!  And I have played the "hurry up and pretend I have been doing something useful," game to my Hubby too =)
