Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
A couple weeks ago I posted pictures of Lucy after my 1st attempt at clipper cutting. All the wonderful responses I received gave me confidence in my abilities, so this week I clipper cut Oscar, as well as all that goes along with a full groom. His hair, although curly, doesn't stand out straight from the body after blow drying like Lucy's does, so it was a lot more challenging. I had to do quite a bit of touch up work the following day, after seeing all the spots I'd missed or cut incorrectly. Its a work in progress for sure, but I'm pleased with the way Oscar ultimately turned out. I never posted picks of him turning 1 on his birthday last Friday, Sept. 13th, so this is dual purpose photo!

You have to be very pleased ... amazing job! Think of the money you are saving at the groomers! You can buy lots more toys and treats!
Thank you, Lucy & Annabelle's Mom! It will take a while before I start saving money after the expense of 'gearing up' for self grooming, but eventually I'll get there. More toys and treats! I love it!
Happy birthday Oscar...nice "do"!
Wow, you are a pro! Happy Birthday Oscar!
Happy Birthday Oscar! Your Mommie did a great job.
Oscar looks amazing Debb...you did a great job...good for you...and a very Happy Belated 1st Birthday Oscar...you are adorable & so handsome!
He looks beautiful and so white :) I do all my own grooming as well and learning as I go along. Its funny because you think you did a great job then when all the hair settles back into place and you look at them the next day its like OMG what have I done !!! and back on the grooming table. Work in progress for sure :)
Thanks, Barbara! I agree, the next day things can look very different, indeed! And what is it about some of those clipper stroke lines on the back that never seem to disappear?? Lucy is still sporting a few on her side and I groomed her weeks ago. So much to learn and lots and lots of practice needed!
You have got it! Another great job, and a beautiful yearling. Your biggest problem is just going to be keeping it to grooming only your own dogs. We always groom our dogs but just keep the name of the local groomer handy when people ask us about grooming. No way! It takes us about five hours for a full groom and we usually divide it between two people and sometimes spread over a couple of days. Your dogs look great!
Isn't it amazing how these doodles will stand for hours for a groom. They just love the one-on-one attention. Harpo even jumps up onto the grooming table although he balks at stepping down into the sink. He loves brushing and clipping and cutting but not so hot on the baths. We had a poodle when we lived in Germany who actually jumped into the bathtub when he wanted a bath. He would wait patiently until one of us gave him his bath. Now, I have never heard of that before or since.
Thank you, Lynda! Good tip about keeping the name of a pro groomer in mind when asked about groomers! I can't imagine grooming someone else's dogs, honestly. I know my dogs. Their temperaments. Their dispositions when it comes to grooming, and I know that I started grooming them at a young age. Those are all the variables a groomer must deal with when taking on different dogs.
I think you're right about the doods' loving their one-on-one time during the grooming process. I was amazed Oscar stood the entire time (from blow drying to final touch up scissor work) without a single complaint or desire to sit down. I thought that would be a major problem with him, because he's liked to sit when I've groomed him in the past. He was wonderful on the table. I couldn't have asked for a better grooming subject. (He's such a sweetheart, too!) That's funny about your poodle who actually seemed to 'ask' for a bath! That would never happen in this house! LOL..
Looks like a professional job to me, very well done and Happy Birthday Oscar...I really want to know how you did the legs?
