my 2 year old doodle Midas is starting to pull a new stunt every night!! I let him out before bed.. he gets a little treat.. we get in bed.. he comes over and stand next to the bed and plops his head on the side of the bed and stares at me...I ignore and try to sleep...he then will put his head somewhere on me.. my arm..my hand..i ignore and try to sleep..he then puts both front paws on the bed standing on his hind legs and continues to stare at me.. I ignore.. he then jumps up on the bed and sits staring at me and starts licking me or anything to try and get my attention... this will go on for a while..and EVERY night I give in and think he has to maybe pee again..even though he JUST went out.. but I know hes really only doing it to go out again and get another treat.. but I always feel bad in CASE he has to pee..but he holds it ALLLL day no problem..he never had a problem holding it even as a baby so I know its all an act!!.. last night I refused to get up.. it went on for 2 hours..i even fell asleep and woke up around 2:30 am and he was still trying.. I finally let him out.. then he got his little treat because he wont even come in the door unless I have a treat in hand.. and at almost 3 am..i am desperate to get back to bed and just want him to come in and go to sleep.. had I not given him the treat he would have probably tried again.. he will try this at least 2 times a night.. and then eventually when I give in..he settles down.. this is getting so annoying!! do I really just ignore him and go to sleep and let him stand there all night? I feel so bad turning my back on him when he is standing there staring at me..or should I let him out.. pretend to get the treat so he comes back in and don't actually give it to him?? I don't know what to do.. I am contemplating bringing the crate back up from the basement and having him sleep in there a few nights.. not to punish him but he cant keep doing this.. HELP!!!

Play a good game of fetch before bed.  Are you exercising him enough?  Stop giving him treats and give good praise instead.

Yes, ignore him. He will get bored with you. Sounds like he is bored already but gets to much sleep in the day?  Hard to fall asleep, even for a dog, when you are not tired.

Summer hours and dogs stay up later, just like humans it can be very hard to sleep with noisy sounds outdoors.

Do you use a fan. That helps.  Or, turn on the air.

Good luck

walked him 4 miles...he wanted to go home after about 10 minutes yesterday it was so humid! lol

I would tell him what you want him to do instead.  Have you taught a down/stay.....if you have put him in one on his bed.  Each time he gets up don't say anything...just take him back to his bed.  Eventually he'll figure it out.

I agree with Jane - we have trained Peri that she's allowed on the bed to snuggle in the beginning of the night, but as soon as daddy comes to bed, she gets "off" and goes to her bed (at the foot of our bed). She is really good about it, but we've been consistent with her for a long time on it.

Same here. They just need to figure out what to do--what you want them to do.

Spud knows, 'Move Over' which cracks me up

Oh, my two know move over too.
LOL Joanne, I have to teach mine "move over". We have two bed hogs.

Midas has you trained.  Happens to most of us, is my guess!  Good luck on the re-train

yes, I am a very well trained mommy lol

I'm sorry Midas is being such a pill. I hope you can train that right out of him! Yikes! I never treat the dogs for going potty. An empty bladder is its own reward. ;o)

I would also do more than just 'ignore' -- I would give him a command or tell him to knock it off, make him lie down, something.  I would have no problem putting him in his crate (if you still have one) too if it meant breaking a bad habit.  You might also consider weaning him off the night time treat...either not having it with you or something.
