Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi! Just adopted a goldendoodle from the shelter in Camarillo, Ca. They spay before you can bring the dog home, so we will pick him up this Wednesday afternoon.

We named him Ruffie de Creme BrewLait (since I am a coffee lover). Ruffie is a 2 month old male.

I am reading as much as I can about the new puppies on the site here, and downloaded books on Doodles from Amazon Kindle. There were quite a few.

I have had Yorkies for the past 40 years, and lost my last one to collapsing trachea 4 months ago.

I have seen and loved the Doodles over the past few years, and started reading up on them. Imagine my surprise when one turned up in the local shelter.

Am calling our vet for a checkup this Thursday morning, and want to get pet insurance. No way to know health history with a shelter dog. I like what I have seen with Healthy Paws.

Shopping today for a crate, and probably Origen puppy food. Will post pictures as soon as I can figure out how. ANY advice for first few days would be welcome.

As of now you cannot do this from iPad directly.
Thank you everyone.
Animal shelter just called ... they are spaying a day early so I can pick up Ruffie this afternoon. Would appreciate advice on caring for puppy immediately after spaying.
Main thing after the neuter for puppies is to keep them on the quiet side (good luck),
and don't let them lick the wound.
It can be a challenge keeping them calm for a week, I know, we just spayed Maci
a few days ago :-). But time does pass quickly. Have fun with your new doodle.
In order to post a picture from your IPad /iPhone, you must host the pic somewhere first. I use the Photobucket App., so all my pictures are automatically downloaded to Photobucket ( it's free). Once it is hosted, you can copy your picture directly into the body of your post. Use the HTML link.. So far, this has been the only way I have figured out to post a pic from my IPad.

What a sweet sweet doodle. So good to see that you have done so much preparation and you will be a great doodle owner. Stick with Doodlekisses and you won't go wrong.

Ruffie ate and drank water, but still hasn't pottied since we brought him home yesterday evening. Getting worried. Can anyone shed light on this?
Vet appointment in 2 hours.
He is playing and chewing his nylabone. Doesn't seem lethargic.
????

He may just be nervous. I know some dogs that come from a shelter won't go to the bathroom for what would seem like a long time. Be prepared to probably pick up the first poop in the house. They tend to let it go to the point where they can't hold it anymore.

Still, I would mention it to the vet just to be on the safe side.

Wasn't he just neutered yesterday? He had nothing to drink or eat before hand, if so. Plus the anesthia they administer also has this effect on them. Mention it to the Vet...but I'm guessing " it will come".

Just got home from vet. He estimates Ruffie's age at closer to 4 months. Clean bill of health. Not pooping because no food before spaying.

Four months means he needs to get his rabies shot to be registered.

Got Comfortis.

I don't think anyone has ever walked this dog on leash. He keeps trying to weave between my legs. Never heard the word 'sit' before either. My husband and I start obedience class on November 3rd. Not sure yet who is going to obey whom.

Oh yes .... he is 12.4 pounds.

Saw the vet, got a clean bill of health. Vet thinks Ruffie is more like 3 and a half months. Still has puppy teeth and puppy coat. Weighs 12.4 pounds. Can anyone guess what he might grow up to look like, and how big he might get?
Got Trupanion pet insurance. You pick your deductible and monthly payment is adjusted accordingly. Wish I had done this with Trinket ( my Yorkie).
Ruffie finally pooped. I joked with my husband that now I have the Doodle doo detail daily.
He almost housetrained himself! The first day and night I carried him out every few hours. Then he went outside on his own and left his odiferous bundle out in the yard, but at the opposite end of the yard from where I took him. Stubborn streak?
We got raw frozen venison plus the Orijen puppy food. He finishes up the venison quickly, and then takes his time thinking about the dry food.
Does anyone else's puppy stick a paw in the water dish before drinking?
