Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Meet Sophie! She is a 4 year old Goldendoodle. This sweet girl will hang out at our house while we find her new family. She was an owner surrender. Her owner fell and broke her hip and has to move into an assisted living community. Our rescue group offered to foster her until she healed, but she has decided she is not able to live on her own and will remain in assisted living. She has no living family members which is why she decided to surrender her companion.

Sad and scary story for us older folks. but Sophie is lovely and will find a good home soon I hope.
She is beautiful! What a gorgeous girl!
What a beautiful doodle, I hope she finds a loving home quickly.
I wish you were not so far away. I would take her. I do not get my pup until July and am dogless until then.
Beautiful girl. I'm sure you will find the perfect home for her.
She's lovely. How sad :(
It's a sad story and she sounds like a great dog that will find a good home. She is still young.
But it brings up an issue that I think about often.
How many of us have provisions or ways to deal with these situations? I know when I was looking at adopting a rescue before getting Georgia they asked about it.
I live alone. I have friends and neighbors and Georgia has lots of fans. But I have no one that I could ask to take my dog. I'm not that old so I don't see any problems regarding me, but you never know. And Georgia is still a pup, and gorgeous, and such a great dog that I think if I put the word out I'm sure I would have no problems finding a great home for her. But when she gets to be 8 or 9 or 10 the situation changes so much... It's something I need to figure out in a few years.
You make a good point, Nancy. It is always a good idea to have a back up plan. I had kind of taken this for granted as I currently live at home with my dad after recently graduating and I have a dog-loving younger sister and a serious boyfriend (Ragley's "dad"), but I have not actually spoken to anyone about a concrete plan if something was to happen to me. Thank you for bringing up a very important issue.
It is a good point. Unfortunately, one that comes up regularly within rescue.
My husband and I live 4,000 miles from our nearest relatives. Thankfully, we've made arrangements should something happen to us but it is still a scary thing to think about.
I am going through the same thinking. I am having a will done. I have no one that can take my dog when I am gone. I want to put it in my will. I was thinking about leaving her to DRC with money to keep her until a good home is found. I don't care what happens to my "things". But I am worried about my doodle.
Is it too far to ship to Michigan from AK?
I would gladly send a doodle your way, but our rescue only adopts within AK.
Too bad. Sophie looks perfect for me.
