New Here! We Just Lost Our Beloved Labradoodle, Puddles, A Few Weeks Ago!!

Hello everyone!  I am so thrilled to have found Doodle Kisses!  Just got accepted so thought I would post right away.  Our family had the most spoiled, most precious Black Labradoodle, Puddles, for almost seven years..........we loved her ever so much.......she really loved vanilla ice cream cones and loved to go for rides in the car.....she often slept in bed with us......LOL!

Anyhow, just a few weeks ago, we lost her very unexpectedly.......what a horrendous shock.....our entire family was crying our hearts out........it felt like some of us died with her.  The hurt.......it's so undescribable......a hurt like no other........grief is overwhelming.....our house has been unbearably quiet.......this is one of the most devastating losses we've ever suffered and it's difficult to shake the sadness and depression.

We had our precious Puddles cremated at the Animal Rescue League and brought her back home to be with us.  I bought a lovely oak urn, that will hold her picture and is engraved "Our Precious Puddles."  That brings a bit of comfort, having her back home.

We started going to the Animal Rescue League on a regular basis, checking out their dogs....to no avail so I've been practically living online, trying to find another Doodle.......just not black.  Finally, after many e-mails, phone calls, etc.. I finally located an 8 week old Golden Doodle little guy, who's only about an hour from our house!  I called the man today, then talked to my husband.  We have an appointment to drive over on Friday to check out the little guy.  I spoke with the gentleman for about an hour and had very good "feelings" about this (I'd also spoken to someone else but had "bad" vibes, as they had far too many dogs/puppies).

If we get the little Golden Doodle, it will be two weeks before we can bring him home, as he's getting neutered, but that's okey......it will give us time to get the house ready.

Nobody will ever take the place of our beloved Puddles, nor will we ever forget her......we're hoping that a new puppy will help us all.

Anybody have any ideas for a name for a little golden guy?

I'm so very glad to be a new member here!

Thanks so much for your kind words........oh my, it was so heartbreaking and totally devastating......Puddles was such a very important part of our family.....I was able to manage to use one of her many, many pictures as my icon here, so you can see what she looked like.....we nicknamed her the "Shredder," as she went crazy over bubble wrap, the stuff that comes in boxes/packing material........we would laugh ever so hard when she'd get ahold of some of that.  What joy/laughter/love she gave us......it just seems so unreal that she's gone already from our lives.    Thanks for the name suggestions...........they are cute names!!!!!

Hi Nora,

We are so glad to have you join us at DK.  Unfortunately, most all of us know the pain of losing a beloved pet.  I am so very sorry for your loss and yes the pain & heartbreak is absolutely overwhelming.  We just went through that with our beloved golden retriever, Jack six months ago.  I cried every single day and just couldn't pull myself out of the darkness.  He had left a huge hole in my heart.  I still have my moments where I walk by his picture and start to cry, but it is getting a little easier day by day.  What helps the most is we have a beautiful, sweet and very loving puppy who we brought home three weeks ago.  She is now 11 weeks old and she is just our pure joy.  She is helping to close the gaping hole our sweet Jack left in our hearts.  I am so excited for your new addition and can't wait to see pictures of your little bundle of joy.  Puddles will always be with you.  Someday your memories of her will bring happiness not tears.  Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Losing a precious pet is devastating and at such a young age it must feel impossible. I am so sorry for your whole family. The good news is your pup will help the healing process. He won't replace Puddles but he will keep you busy and your thoughts occupied to help heal.

You will find a great name I'm sure... Puddles was certainly creative!

I'm so sorry to hear about Puddles, what a terrible loss. Make sure to update us and add lots of pictures when you bring your doodle home. :-)

Nora - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Puddles!!!

Not to spoil your excitement but I have to ask why would anyone neuter an 8 week old puppy??

My Charli was spayed when she was approximately 4 weeks (a rescue in Ohio did that) and she has problems going potty in the morning. She is 4+ years old and it seems to take forever for her to be able to pee. I can't say that is medically from an early spay but none of the other 3 have that issue.

I always wonder about that, as well, but there are so many breeders that spay/neuter before you get your puppy at 8-9 weeks.

Adrianne ~ I think it is to protect their bloodlines.  I have two ALDs and they were both neutered at 8 weeks old.  Neither of them have had any issues from it.  I do not think you can purchase an Australian Labradoodle that has not been neutered unless you are buying a breeder puppy.

Hi Adrianne!  At first, when I heard that, I felt the same way as you.......however, after doing a lot of research and even asking at the vet's and our local pet shops, I've been told that most breeders now do spay/neuter puppies at very early ages to avoid major "complications" later in the dog's life.  We didn't have our Puddles spayed until she was quite a bit older.....found out she had gotten a very, very bad infection.........it was a real nightmare........

Wow....so sorry to hear about your Charli and her "potty" problems.......wow, 4 weeks........I would think that would be way too young......I've thought 8 to 10 weeks to be pretty darn young........maybe Charli will "outgrow" the problem?  I really hope so.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is by far one of the most painful losses. I am also somewhat new here. I lost my beautiful bearded collie in April. The pain was also unbearable as was the quiet and emptiness in our home. Because of my son's encouragement we brought home our beautiful doodle puppy. Of course he did not replace my beardie but he has brought so much happiness and helped lighten our grief. Your new pup will do the same for you. Enjoy your new baby!!!

Hi Melinda!  Oh my, I am so terribly, terribly sorry to hear that you lost a precious pet, as well......the pain just is undescribable, isn't it?  It's so devastating........and for so long, all I wanted to do was to cry, cry, and cry some more........and yes, the quiet and emptiness has been horrible; that's why I've been doing tons of research online, have been sending lots of e-mails and making lots of phone calls as well.

We did go check out the little Golden Doodle puppy this morning (actually, there were two!).......soooo precious, our hearts just melted!  We were at the guy's house for two hours........he has health guarantees, has all the shots, puppy check ups, does the micro chipping and then the puppies are spayed or neutered before they're allowed to be adopted......we will get the puppy (am thinking of "Boomer" or "Splash" especially) September 12th!!!  He will be 10 weeks old then.  That's wonderful to hear that you got a Doodle puppy as well, and yes, indeed, they do bring so very much happiness!!!!!

This is heartbreaking, and most of us here know what it is to lose a beloved pet and member of the family.  I hope that when you find the right puppy that it will help fill the empty spot in your heart.  We'll be watching for pictures when the time comes!

Thanks so much for your kind words.  It's got to be one of the most devastating times in one's life......to lose beloved pets......their love is so unconditional, they're always faithful and ask for so little in return.......I guess a part of our family died when we lost our beloved Puddles.  Today, however, we found a little male Golden Doodle puppy.........I talked to the guy for over 3 hours by phone, he also sent many photos, and we went to his house this morning........we will be bringing one of the two little guys home September 12th!!!!  It all felt so very, very right....we spent 2 hours at his home this morning!
