I posted in april about switching over to Nexguard and everything has been fine with using it for 7 months.  I did however, do a price comparison and was suprised to realize that it costs almost twice as much as Frontline for their weights.  My Vet had a rebate offer last time with a $50.00 rebate if buying Heartguard and Nexguard, which helped, but I don't need Heartguard.

My vet feels the products are equally effective and it comes down to convenience. Hummm. It has been nice I have to admit, but $20.00 a pill, x 2, is a bit hefty for my tastes.  I will need to go back to Frontline during the winter months at least, since swimming isn't an issue and again being diligent with the kiddos not touching the frontline application area, as I used to do.

How are you feeling about the cost?

Wow, that is huge.   I am alone in this one as I am not a fan of Frontline at all and would never use the product.

I suppose  safety and health would be the deciding factor for me, Sue

I'm not a fan of Frontline either because of the oil slick, but I only have one dog so the cost difference doesn't add up as quickly.

Does your vet have promotions at certain times of the year? The vet I buy Oliver's Revolution from has a flea/heartworm med sale about once a year where you buy six months and you get two free. I always stock up! You could also call around to other vets to see if some charge less, I actually buy Oliver's Revolution from a different vet because our vet doesn't stock it and this clinic charged the least. I just have our vet call in the Rx.

Elizabeth, I get the oil slick with my spot on treatment too. For some reason my husband can do it without leaving a spot on the coat. For now on, I had it to him. I have no idea how he does it so neatly but he does

That is so interesting, I want to know his trick! I've actually never used Frontline on Oliver, but my parents used it on their corgi and the oil slick was so annoying. The oil is the whole reson I use Revolution on Oliver (Revolution is a spot on but it's alcohol based and dries within minutes)! If you ever find out his trick please let me know--I could save $10 a month and wouldn't have to go to a special vet to get it!

It may have something to do with the thickness of the coat too. I always get an oily spot on Murphy, but not on bella. He has a lot of fine fluffy hair and hers is thick and coarse. I can barely get to her skin, but Murphy's skin is very visible if you seperate the hair. But I'd still like to know DH's trick too, if it would help with Murphy!
