I get my new puppy in thirteen days and I'm trying to pick the perfect name for her! Did all of you have a name picked out before you got your new puppy? And if you did, did you keep that name or did you change your mind after living with the puppy for a few days? Maybe I'm obsessing for nothing - maybe I should just stick with the two names I've picked and hope that the perfect name just comes to me when I hold her for the first time?

I had several choices in mind. My 2 cats were named after Lord of the Rings characters (Merry and Pippin) as were most of my previous pets -
Mithrandir ( Mith) and Smaug (ok that one is from The Hobbit) the chinchillas,
Frodo, Bilbo, Samwise (Sam) and Lobelia the degus,
Aragorn (Arry) the rabbit...
so I had Arwen and Aeowyn picked out. I also liked Alys and my DH suggested Andrina (Drina for short), my gaming name at the time.
Once we got Cooper we tried out a name per day. non seemed right, so my DH suggested Cooper. It is my maiden name, and we were getting married a few months after we got Cooper. She is not a girly feminine dog, shes bouncy, energetic and goofy, and the name just fit
when we got a lynx siamese, it was only fitting to call him Legolas (Lego)
Shannon- that is a super cute story of how your pup got his name. I love it! Great White Shark Fin! Kids are so awesome!
My dad bought the puppy for the kids so we named her after him. So we have a female puppy named Charlie. I put a pink collar on her so it's all good.
That's funny! I always wanted a dog named "Zak" but it was so obviously male and we had a female so DH came up with the name "Zakita" and Zak for short - but everyone who heard her name thought she was a male (even with her pink collar!)
My niece's female dog is named Zazu :)
What 2 names are on your mind? I had a name picked up for our Monty before we got him and I love his name. I'm having a hard time picking a name for our second puppy, a female, that we get in summer. I only have one name on the list (I think I will share once the puppies are born next month) and I feel like I should have more... Good luck!
My sister's name is Monika and I call her Moni for short. Can't wait to hear your choice of names for Monty's 'lil sis!
My cousin's name is Monika. :-) I call her Mona.
I had Tara's name picked out about a year in advance. The weird thing was that when I finally found her, the breeder, who "names" her puppies had also named her Tara. So it was kind of kismet.
Wow, what a cool coincidence. Monty's name was Figaro. The breeder gave the whole litter musical names.
Shortly before we got Sedona, we had taken a trip to Monument Valley and Sedona (Arizona). Sedona is known for its colorful rock formations, mostly reds and apricots, so when "our" litter was all reds and apricots, Sedona seemed like a perfect name. I like it because it's different.
Years ago, when my husband and I were first married, he said he wanted to name a son Bartholomew. My response was, "over my dead body", but I said he could name the kitten we were planning to get Bartholomew if he wanted. The trouble was the kitten we got was a female. Nevertheless, we went with the name. Bartholomew ended up being the best cat we ever had!
Good luck with your puppy and the naming process.
