My nearly 2 y.o. Doodle has recently started to obsessively sniff things, like the comforter on our bed at night and various pillows. He will sniff and lick constantly until he finally goes to sleep, and then will sometimes wake us up doing the same thing. I have washed the comforter, and sprayed it with Febreeze, thinking he'd shy away from the detergent smells, but to no avail. It seems very OCD-like to me. Any thoughts or ideas? I'm thinking of trying Bitter Apple on it to get him to stop, but I'm concerned that there's some kind of mental problem or deficiency going on. There haven't been any changes in our household that would upset him.
There must be something on your comforter that soothes him. Have you tried giving him a "leave it" command and treating him. Bitter apple may be a good option too...or maybe even natures miracle?
Kirby LOVES the smell of my deoderant. He will sniff it and rub himself all over me and then on the ground.
