Anyone else on the East Coast about to get smacked by Hurricane Irene?  I live in Portsmouth/Virginia Beach, Va and it's coming for us!  My husband is currently in Boston for is Physician Assistant interview so I'm home alone.  Thankfully my parents are in the area but I hate this time where I constantly check the weather updates trying to make an educated decision on what to do. Prior to Irene threatening to make an appearance, my husband was supposed to drive into town on Friday evening; sleep and rest from the drive on Saturday and then he and Brinkley were going to take a road trip to to TN to visit his parents.  I was originally supposed to go until DH's interview got schedule right in the middle of when we had originally planned to drive to TN.  Now I think DH is going to swing into town Friday night and leave in the middle of the night Friday/Saturday early morning.

I really wish Irene would go out to sea!  Anyone else making preparations for this beast?

I'll check Weather.com's live satellite starting on Saturday, when Irene gets closer to me. But, I believe I'm in the safe zone since I'm 2 hours from the coast. Hope you all will be safe. Please keep us updated.
I lived in Miami, FL for 10 years so I can empathize.  So sorry your are left alone to deal with Irene.  Be safe!
I live in easern central NJ about 10 miles in from the Atlantic.  I'm worried !!!!  Tonight going to take in all the patio furniture, dog toys, etc.   I worry about the winds, I'm not in a flood area but if electric goes out then no sump pump = flooded basement :(   I hope everyone weathers this storm with no injuries or serious damage.  Good Luck !!!
Today is our "get ready day".  Tie up all the porch furniture, put the large hanging plants in the garage, hit the grocery story (hopefully everything is not sold out).  Be safe everyone!
We are saying prayers that this will all get past without too much damage.  Stay safe - that is the main thing!
I am in Western Tidewater. Unless Irene takes a more westerly track we are out of the severe wind zone (Isabelle ended up tracking almost right over us).  We are taking in all loose stuff in the yard and F. Parker has great recommendations.  If you are in a low lying area pay attention to your local evacuation orders.   I am sorry you have to deal with this without DH.  I am also sorry any of us has to deal with it.  Stay safe.
Where in Tidewater are you? We may be close! I'm going to go to my parents house.

I'm glad to hear you will be with your parents and not alone.  I am about 50 miles from you.

:-(  I feel so bad for everyone that is effected by Irene.  Everyone will be in my prayers and I hope you and your DH are safe!
I hope everyone gets through this OK. Keep us posted if you can.
Stay safe everyone.  I'm praying this won't be as bad as everyone is expecting!
To all you east coast DK'ers - hope you're all well-prepared and weather this storm safely!!!
