Having just attended the funeral services of a soldier this summer, I cannot even imagine how I would have reacted if I encountered this scene.  It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life, but this might have put me over the edge!

Oh my gosh! that is truly heartbreaking.
That is the saddest thing I have ever seen, it gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes.
This brought tears to my eyes too !!!! How very sad
A picture is worth a thousand words...........
Oh how sad! I wonder what's going to happen to the dog now. Such a tragedy to him and the family.
You know I had that same thought as well.  The only thing I could think is that we have seen some wonderful stories through the DRC foster program where dogs have a very unique ability to leave the past behind them and love again, so I truly hope that somehow this dog can do that!
Oh this is just horribly sad.
Ok, now I am crying like a baby. My heart goes out to this man's family and that wonderful dog. I wish they would say what happened to the dog.

This article says the dog is going to live with one of the soldier's friends.

I always feel terrible for the pets in this case, because you can't even explain to them what happened.

Thanks, Leslie. These are the things that keep me up at night. I hope the dog goes on to have a great life.
Leslie, thanks for posting this follow-up.  I had not come across this article yet.  At least he will be with someone else who needs him as much as he needs someone.
Very touching.  That dog is going to be doing some major grieving in the months to come.
