Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We just got a 5 month old Goldendoodle today. She is panting a lot. I am not sure if she is just stressed over the change or if this is normal for a Goldendoodle to be panting alot. We have an appointment with our vet on Monday. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa

She is probably petrified. A whole new world. Rub her chest, soothe her, keep her warm. Just stay with her, etc.
If you are worried just count. Normal heartbeats for a dog are under 25 per minute. I expect though that Joanne ~ Spud* is right, this is a very stressful frightening experience for her. Don't leave her alone, give her lots of loving. It's going to take a while for her to settle.
Did you mean normal respiratory rate, Nicky?
I agree with Joanne that the pup is probably very stressed and needs to settle in. Hopefully she had a restful night and is calmer now.
I meant breaths per minute, sorry :(
Lisa,
How are you and Noodles this morning?
She had a good night and slept well. She is resting in her kennel right now and does not seem to be panting like she was yesterday. Thanks for asking!
Panting could be from:
- stress
- excitement
- happiness
- heat
- a dozen other things
my guess would be it's from the stress of the new environment, and i'd take the others' suggestions to reassure your new pet
but i'd also make sure they have access to a cool spot and water. when we got our guy at 5months, he LOVED bathroom tile.
When we got Duke he was 3 month old, and was so stand offish we couldn't master what to do to make him comfortable for weeks. Finally one night I told my husband to hold him in his lap and just pet and cuddle him to make him feel he was safe.He did it several times over the week. It was like a light bulb went off, He started to get attached to him and then it was my turn to become his master so he would trust me. Now he knows our routines better than we do. Hope this helps,
My mini goldendoodle is 6 mos, and when we first got him (he was 5 mos), he panted a lot right before he went to sleep, for a week or so. He doesn't do it anymore, so I can only assume it was stress?
