Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know there are discussions on this but I haven't found one quite like mine. So here's the scoop, my dog has been picky since day 1. At first she refused to eat dry kibble all together, now she'll eat it but she really only like Purina Pro Plan Adult food (it's what our roommate's dog eats) and it's pretty much the only food she'll eat! We've tried every food under the sun, TOTW, Orijen, Acana, Evo, Innova, Wellness, you name it (and before you scream at me for introducing to them to her too fast, no I introduced them to her slowly to make sure they wouldn't upset her stomach. Anywho, she'll eat them sometimes, but usually for a week or two, and then she gets sick of them and we'll never touch them again. I've tried the timed meals, I've tried the "a starving dog will not go hungry" approach, I've tried it all. She will go on strike until she gets what she wants, how spoiled! Also, yes, I have added rice, chicken, salmon, parmesan cheese, chicken brother, everything to the kibble, she picks it out. Any advice?? Thanks!

Have you tried cottage cheese? the small curd often works well.

Good luck!

Angel is a picky eater, too. I tried all the hard foods AND home cooking, and while she liked the home cooked -- usually -- it wasn't balanced enough, so she started eating twigs and things. What she likes is for me to mix in a little watered down soft food (Chicken Soup is cheap and makes a nice gravy -- I use two tablespoons per cup of dry), warm the water and food for 25s in the microwave, and mix the hard food with it thoroughly.

The only downside is that if she doesn't eat it there and then it can get pretty nasty when left down, but Angel's pretty good at letting me know she's hungry -- which isn't often. She never eats a full serving of food, but at least she eats SOMETHING...
Ned prefers to eat at night when it is dark! He really does. He eats kibble so I just leave it down. Sometimes he eats at the common breakfast and dinner times like the other dogs, but usually he doesn't. He is also a light eater and doesn't eat for perhaps a day and a half, then eats, then skips a meal - I have learned not to worry too much about it. He is healthy so.....
I've been feeding TImbow Fromm too and he's done really well on it! He would get really bored with the Candiae and I think that changing flavors is working very well for him!
Sage is also a picky eater. Just started home cooking. Hamburger, sweet potato, broccoli, cottage cheese and Missing Link. She loves it. I buy hamburger patties at Costco and cook 2 at a time. 1/2 a sweet potato. Whole one cooked in microwave for 4 min and cooled. A couple of broccoli florets frozen and cooked with the burger - cut up with scissors. Sage is less than 20 LBS so that is about 4 meals. Less expensive than canned and the best part is she eats it no problem.
