Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Since summer is upon us and the heat is on, my doodles seem to be permanently drinking from the many sources of water containers scattered throughout the house and garden. Every time they drink, they love to share-the-wealth by placing they very water-soaked chins on our laps...which gives one quite a shock when there is shorts involved:) My husband is so tired of 1) the trails of water they leave behind on the floor and 2) the permanent wet chins, so he wants to "SHAVE" their beards which he thinks will cure the problem....!!!! My question is; has anyone come up with a better idea for their doodles that will alleviate this ongoing problem? I love their darling beards but the only time they are dry, is first thing in the morning when they have been sleeping all night and not drinking. We do have "burp" clothes by every drinking source, but would have to pay a person a full time job to keep their chins dry.....Advice needed please........:)

Yes the opening is smaller and funnel shaped.

They do look useful but as you say wont eliminate the problem. I think I am going to try and trip down the dreaded beards, although, like many, I do love the look..Thanks for sharing the Buddy Bowl option:)

Oliver's beard is quite long and is always wet, he too loves to put his whole face in the water bowl and when he is finished come wipe his face in my lap.  His beard does not smell because it is always being washed.  I am surprised is does not have mold on it because its always wet-LOL    I am debating on whether I should trip it a bit for the summer, I do like the bearded look :)

Me too..but I think after all the comments, I am going to find a pair of scissors and cut it down short. I love the look but hate the mess and the feel of wet fur on my leg...
So you too know what a nice freshly watered beard feels like on your thigh!!!! ha ha. I am definitely going to trim down the beards tonite although I am sad to do it, I am sure it will help with this ongoing problem.
The dripping beard is another reason why I keep Indy's coat so short. It's not so bad now that he's just eating kibble, but with wet food it was SO disgusting. He'd leave a little trail of food bits around my house (gross!). Now that's it's summer and he's panting a lot, I still keep it trimmed tight because he looks so messy with a wet mouth.
I'm going to trim them down to 1/2 inch tomorrow. Thank you :)
Yep, I am definitely getting out the scissors. Thank you.
Daisy has a shorter beard and yes she streams water....my kitchen has so many carpet tiles and rugs it's ridiculous....but by the time she makes her way to me it's usually pretty much drip less. This is after her groom a week ago so you can see I prefer her to have a beard regardless. (weird that I want my girl to have a beard - ha ha) It could be worse, she could also have a mustache..

Ha ha...Very clever and very cute. I love the beard but it has to go for the summer...

I'm considering the same thing right now. Darwin's beard is stinky and a drippy gross mess. Here is a photo of when we cut his beard shorter last time. We cut it down to about 1/2" - 1" long.

Very cute. The scissors are coming out tomorrow....
