My old chow chow Butter's health has been declining over the summer. ( 16 & 1/2 years old) I felt like he was waiting for one of my daughters to come home from her summer job in Ohio. She came home on 8/25, and we took him to the vet. Since then, he perked back up, ate turkey and rice like a champ, went outside and was happy again. My daughter left back for college late sunday afternoon, happy to see him doing well again. Monday evening, he brought back all of his dinner, and since then, he is going back down. He woke up early this morning moaning and has been lethergic all morning. We are taking him back to see Dr. Sweeney this afternoon, but the sun may be setting. I am so sad.

He has been with us all these years and I feel like he helped me with my kids, and  protected us. They were all little kids then... He is such a strong dog, with pride and dignity.

I kept saying that I did not want to have to make decision for him. I feel as that Butter was a kind of thoughtful dog that he made sure I did not have to do that. He did not make it to Dr. Sweeny. He went as he fell into a deeper sleep at home on his own....
He really did love you so much.
Oh, I'm so so so very sorry to hear this. At least he was in the comfort of his home, in the arms of someone who loved him. Stay strong, all our thoughts and prayers are with your and your family right now.
This makes me cry. This is how we should all go.
So sorry to hear your sad news.  Glad to hear that he went peacefully and at home with his people.  My thoughts are with you and your family.
Sorry for your loss...I know how difficult it is to lose a dog...they are more than pets, they are family members <3
I'm so sorry for your loss Kyoko.   So heartbreaking to say goodbye to your sweet Butter.  You're in our thoughts and prayers.
You've got our prayers too.  Butter may have passed over the Rainbow Bridge but he'll always be with you ... looking out for you.  Those bonds don't die.
im so sorry for your loss
Prayers for you and your family.
So sorry for your loss.
OH Kyoko, I am so sorry to hear about Butter. He was a noble dog and your family and Butter were lucky to have each other for so long. Although he was declining it seems he died without suffering and that is good.
