Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This weekend I took my Doodle to a studio for professional photos. Normally, my dog is really good with sit/down/stay and doing his cute little "tricks". Before we went to the studio, I had visions of all of these cute photos I would have of him bowing, waving, holding up his paw, etc.....We were even practicing outside the studio door and he was on cue for every command. I was excited, doodle was excited, it was going to be great! LOL!

On the first picture the photographer had him jump up on a pretty tall table and lie down. That picture turned out pretty good. But, after he heard the click and loud "POOF" of the flash it was all over. We got him to stay long enough for about 5 more poses but he looked "shell shocked" in them. Poor boy! He would not sit, stay, lie down(except like he was ducking for cover ready to make a break for it), and forget about any tricks! I would not consider him a timid dog. (He is not afraid of loud sounds like fireworks, thunderstorms). Next time, how can I get him not to be afraid of the flash and "POOF" sound? Also, I would like to hear about others experience with studio photos.

Hmmm...having never taken my dogs to a studio, I have no idea if they'd respond the same way. My initial response is he needs more 'proofing' around surprising distractions. And perhaps getting him used to the POOF of the flash would help...but I know I don't have such a flash, so it might be finding friends who do and working on simple exercises (basics like sit, stay, etc) while the flash is going.
Oh that's to bad but at least you got one good one=) Let's see did you bring treats with you to give him or her? I took two of mine but they were both still young and didn't seem to mind it. Also the lady that did mine sat and petted my dog for awhile before taking the pics. I kinda let my dog walk around and get to know the place first..I hope they didn't charge you to much if your not that happy with the way they look...better luck next time=)
Hello! Sorry to hear about your experience with the pictures. I am a photographer and do alot of weddings and sports pictures of kids. Heres what I have learned with both kids and dogs (sorry to compare the two in the same group) you can always tell a child that doesn't get his picture taken very often or has had a bad experience with it, I just start talking with them about what ever I can say that will get there interest such as their shoes or sponge bob or Dora ect. the dogs I try to act really happy around and pet them and believe it or not right before you take the picture if you make a high pitch squeal they will raise their ears and look at you and usually close thier mouths. So if I were you I would try to take alot of pictures your doodle at home to get him used to the flash and try making the squealing sounds (it works) Good luck. I put a couple of pictures up of molly yesterday and yes I was squealing a little to get her to pay attention..........Good luck again I hope this was a little helpful......
Your Molly pictures are soooooooo good!!! Did your neighbors here you squealing lol.....I sound pretty stupid when I take my dog's pictures I wonder what people think!
