1. What is the norm for labradoodles and or goldendoodles to end the puppy madness and calm down? I know for different breeds it is different; for example English Springer Spaniels are "late bloomers" and don't calm down until age two. They really mellow at age four.
2. What is the usual age that they stop growing?
3. What stages do the coat go through and what ages?
I would have put this in puppy madness but you all with the experience might not have seen it.
i dont know the answer but my doodle has chewed 100 of dollars of stuff and she jumps on everyone that comes over wich is annoying. are all doodle puppies this mischieves? sorry i had no answers for you. marcia and alley
Hi there! My Max only chews his bones and toys not once had he tried anything else.
He has always been well behaved, but at 17 months still runs around like crazy and gets very excited with guests. My new girl Zoey who is 8 weeks chews everything she sees, I know she is a puppy just not used to it LOL!!
Sunni was 18 months before she acted like an adult. I'm still waiting for Bella and she is 16 mo.
Sunni chewed a hole in my mattress and ate the pad under the carpet at 16 months. That was
her last puppy act. She will be 5 yr. this week. Bella still jumps on people and chewed up a pair
of binoculars last week. She is more energetic than Sunni was at the same age. I just hope that
it doesn't take her longer to mature.
Katie (our GoldenDoodle Puppy) hasn't really been a big chewer at all she likes to bite and nip my 8 year olds hands more than anything else. My daughter has left toys on the rug and Katie has had very little interest in chewing them. We have a 13 year old Black Lab Mix who was awful at chewing for her entire life. She ate pens, corners of furniture, QTips...anything she could get into her mouth and she still gets into things!! I really think there is a big difference between the Labradoodles and the Goldendoodles as far as the chewing goes. At least by what my experience has been and I have seen. Labs seem to be the "late bloomers".
I was told by our vet that whatever size your puppy is at 4 months old you can double that size and that is a general guideline as far as how big they will probably get but as he said...its really just a guideline. Katie has been getting really big really fast so I was curious if we were going to end up with a 100lb dog eventually LOL.
Katie is 4 months now and when we got her at 2 months she was shedding everywhere, I thought for sure we got one of the shedding Doodles but it has slowed a lot. My understanding is its really hard to tell until they are adults what the shedding is going to be like. We were finding tufts of little white hair all over the place, now we find nearly none.
Max is 7 mths old and has lots of energy although he is calmer and responds better to commands but still gets really excited when he meets people and likes to jump on them. We're still working on that one!! All of his toys are missing most of the stuffing. He luckily hasn't chewed on any furniture but will grab socks, underwear out of the laundry basket and race through the house - he's very quick :-) He loves kleenex, paper towels so we have to keep those far back on the counter. He doesn't eat them just chews them into tiny bits. Loves to bring in leaves or sticks and always picks up things to carry on our walks. He even tried once to carry a palm frond!!
I'm not sure when they stop growing although he has really slowed down. He was almost 20 lbs at 4 mths and now at 7 mths is 25 lbs. He's an ALD and I guess he would be considered a large mini so unless he has a growth spurt I don't think he'll reach 40 lbs but who knows!!
He has never shed which I'm very grateful since our cat sheds enough for all!!
1) Kirby was never really crazy (we got him at 13 months)...however Dexter calmed down a bit at 1...then a bit more at 1.5, but has just recently really started calming down. He's now 2.5 yrs old.
2) Kirby was full grown when we got him. Dexter didn't really grow after 8 months.
3) We never saw coat stages.
