Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello, i am new to this site and it has been very helpful.  I am looking for a new addtition to our family and we love the American goldendoodle...probs mini... i am feeling overwhelmed with websites and all the info.  I did read the blog on choosing a breeder and found it helpful, i am cautious because we lost our 10yr old cocker spaniel this winter to genetic health issues.  Any tips or recommendations would be helpful.. We live in ohio....but are willing to seek other states for the perfect addition to our family.  Thanks

I agree Kathy, I got one at 8 weeks and one at 10 and I found the 10 week old much easier with training, walking on leash, potty training etc. Altho she did have an older brother to learn from so that might has added to her quick progress. The only thing I hesitate to say about it is that she did learn the habit of eating poop by watching her mother longer and picked up that habit. Or at least that is the best the breeder and I can come up with. I do like the fact however, that she was still getting some breastmilk up until she left, at 10 weeks. Sneaking in a quick sip every now and then. But, I am a Lactation Consultant, so it made perfectly good sense to me!!! LOL

Puppies who are born to moms who live in guardian homes don't get that added "extra nursing" benefit, though, because the breeders send them back to their families as soon as they can, sometimes as early as a month after giving birth. Which is another thing I would be looking at if I were buying a puppy. :)

That was something I was very surprised to find out.  After all that I had heard about not taking the puppies home early, I found that some Mom's weren't there until the puppies went home.

That is a good thing to know!

Hi Stephanie and Welcome! We are neighbors as I probably live about 10 miles up the road.
You have been given advice by the best of our members.
I have left a message on your page.

And as I learned, check out the non refundable deposit if there is not a liter born. The people and doodles on here are a  wealth of knowledge and become you friends even though you may never meet them. The pictures and posts will keep me doodled until I find the right pup at the right time. Thank you all and welcome Stephanie.
