Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Greetings!
We pick up our baby on August 9th. We are retired and go between three house in FL, NE, and AZ. Would like your thoughts on puppy pads.
Miss Lilly is a F1B goldendoodle. She will weigh at the most 30 lbs. I was considering training her on puppy pads and using these when we travel not only when she is a baby but also as an adult. My thoughts are that when we stay in Hotels, I will not have to take her out at night, but just put a pad down in the bathroom.
thank you for your thoughts.

I bought a pack of them to put under Sophie when we went in the car after she decided at 10 weeks that the seat of the car was a perfectly legitimate spot to pee. After I put the pad under her she never tried to pee in the car again. So if anything, it was a pee deterrent.
Sophie just liked to play with the pad, tore it apart and spread the pieces around everywhere. super annoying.
Pee pads might just delay the potty training process. It's easier just to get it over with early on by taking her out all the time. Tiring yes, but you'll be happy you did it in the long run.
I'm against them on the whole. Most dogs don't have to go out in the middle of the night past early puppyhood so it's not very likely that she'll have to go out super late while you're vacationing or in hotels.
It just seems clearer to have a 'no potty indoors' policy through and through.
I was going to give my opinion...a big no to potty pads, but I guess I don't need to add my 2 cents worth (oh wait, I did). I noticed you have a house in NE...I checked out where you live and you are only 1-1/2 hours away. Once Miss Lilly is a bit older, we'll have to get Miss Lilly and Miss Rua together. Rua is a F1B, 10-1/2 months old and weighs a bit under 17lbs. Welcome to DK!
I hate pee pads. I can see their value, for old dogs, old owners, people living at the top of apartment buildings. But they get very expensive over a dogs life time and are really bad for the environment. You can get permanent pet loos with washable "grass" and they are much better environment and cost wise, but they will still be pretty smelly. Id say that Miss Lilly will very quickly get used to going potty in different places
