My puppies skin is so itchy he won't stop scratching. And if I scratch him he does what I call "shifting gears" anyone have any suggestions for what I can put him on to help his skin? He doesn't have fleas or anything. He will do what I call is "corn scratching" and will nibble on his leg and shift gears at the same time with his back leg so I know he's incredibly itchy and not sure what I should do to help him.

I'm so happy to hear that Wrigley is  a healthy little boy!  Wonderful news!  I hope the oatmeal shampoo is the answer for you. If not, just keep trying different brands-it took us a while to find one that worked for her.  At 6 years old Tara does get similar itchy bumps if she is outside playing in wild areas with weeds. Not too bad though and other than that she has not had any allergy issues so hopefully Wrigley won't develop any either. Thanks for the update!

Wrigley is so darn cute and it is great that he got a clean bill of health!  My groomer told me that I should never use any dog shampoo full strength and that it should always be watered down.  It is easier on their skin.  Just a suggestion.

Great news--just one thing I want to add--when I send puppies home (I work for a breeder), the new owners put the pup's collar on and they start scratching and scratching--because of the collar! I always assure the owners that the pup does not have fleas, and it is just that the collar feels funny at first--they do get used to it eventually.

I don't know exactly how old Wrigley is, but my Georgia had itchy scratchy skin early on. The vet thought it might be dry skin. He dismissed it since there was no sign other than me complaining that I think she scratches too much.

Fast forward to today. She has allergy issues. We have been dealing with it since about 6 months. I have been to various vets, changed her diet, and it gets better and then worse. She is 16 months old now.

I don't want to scare you, but prepare you. I hope you have pet insurance. If not get it and make sure allergies are not considered a pre-existing condition if that is possible. I hope I am not overreacting but better safe than sorry when your pup is still young.
